Mechanical, thermal and friction properties of rice bran carbon/nitrile rubber composites: Influence of particle size and loading

Epoxy group-functionalized styrene-butadiene rubbers (G-ESBRs) with different epoxy group contents were synthesized through emulsion polymerization using glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) as the epoxy group-included monomer, and the silica/G-ESBR nanocomposites without silane coupling agents were prepared. The covalent bonding interfaces, resulting from a ring-opening reaction between the hydroxyl groups on the silica surfaces and the epoxy groups of G-ESBR, were formed during the preparation of the silica/G-ESBR nanocomposites. By increasing the epoxy group content, the number of covalent bonds at the interface increases, contributing to an improvement of the interfacial interaction between the G-ESBR and silica and the dispersion of silica, which were verified and analyzed in detail by bound rubber measurement, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and rubber process analyzer (RPA). The silica/G-ESBR nanocomposites with improved dispersion of silica and interfacial interaction showed decreased rolling resistance and increased wet skid resistance. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were greatly improved with increasing epoxy group contents. The highest tensile strength reached 29.4 MPa at a GMA content of 4.8 wt%, a 55.6% increase compared with that of the nanocomposite without epoxy group.

Effects of antioxidant functionalized silica on reinforcement and anti-aging for solution-polymerized styrene butadiene rubber: Experimental and molecular simulation study

To improve the antioxidative efficiency of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MB) and strengthen the interaction between halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and natural rubber (NR), HNTs supported 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (HNTs-s-MB) was prepared by reacting MB with chlorosilane modified HNTs (m-HNTs). FTIR, XPS and TGA confirmed that MB was chemically bonded onto the surface of HNTs. HNTs-s-MB could be homogeneously dispersed in the NR matrix and there was a strong interfacial interaction between HNTs-s-MB and NR, leading to the better mechanical performances of NR/HNTs-s-MB nanocomposites than those of NR/HNTs nanocomposites. Based on the measurements of the thermo-oxidation activation energy of NR/HNTs-s-MB and NR/m-HNTs/MB nanocomposites containing equivalent antioxidant component, it was found that the antioxidative efficiency of HNTs-s-MB was superior to that of the corresponding low molecular MB owing to the much lower migration and volatility of HNTs-s-MB than those of MB.

The invention discloses a silane coupling agent and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the steps of: mixing a coupling agent (gamma-glycidyl ether oxopropyl trimethoxy-silane) and aminophenol p-diphenylamine (PPDA) according to a certain molar ratio; before temperature raising and heating, introducing nitrogen till the end of reaction, and continuously reacting for a period of time under the condition of magnetic force stirring, thus obtaining the silane coupling agent. The prepared silane coupling agent can be used for inorganic filler such as white carbon black and argil; compared with white carbon black modified with the common silane coupling agent, white carbon black modified with the silane coupling agent disclosed by the invention has an excellent aging-preventing function besides the enhancement of the compatibility between the filler and plastic matrixes, and thus the service life of mad products can be prolonged; and when applied to butylbenzene and hevea rubber, the silane coupling agent has excellent performance superior to 2-(gamma-( triethoxy) propyl group) tetrasulfide, so the silane coupling agent can completely replace the 2-(gamma-( triethoxy) propyl group) tetrasulfide to be applied to some rubber.
