Assessments of Subjective Video Quality on HEVC-Encoded 4K-UHD Video for Beyond-HDTV Broadcasting Services

TL;DR: It is shown that the HEVC-encoded YUV420 4K-UHD video at the target bit rate of 18 Mb/s is perceptually good enough in the usage of legacy DTV broadcasting systems with single channel bandwidths of 6 MHz and higher perceptual quality in the 420 YUV color format than in the YUV444 color format at the same target bitrates.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early Coding Unit-Splitting Termination Algorithm for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)

TL;DR: This work proposes a new approach that can terminate the quadtree‐based structure early, based on the RD costs of the parent and current levels, and shows that this algorithm provides a significant time reduction for encoding, with only a small loss in video quality.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Adaptive Coding Unit early termination algorithm for HEVC

TL;DR: An efficient Coding Unit (CU) early termination algorithm to reduce encoding time of HEVC test model (HM) is proposed based on average rate-distortion cost of previous skipped CUs.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Fast Intra-Prediction Method in HEVC Using Rate-Distortion Estimation Based on Hadamard Transform

TL;DR: Among the many predefined modes, the intra‐prediction mode is chosen using the difference between the minimum and second minimum of the rate‐distortion cost estimation based on the Hadamard transform, which achieves a nearly similar coding performance to that of HEVC test model 2.1.

Method for coding and decoding scalable video and apparatus using same

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method and an apparatus for interlayer intra-prediction, which comprises the steps of: deciding whether to apply an interlayer prediction to an enhancement layer; and performing a prediction on a current block of the enhancement layer based on reference information that is generalized and generated from a reference picture, which is decoded, of a reference layer, when the inter-layer prediction is applied.
