Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative analysis of in vitro osteo/odontogenic differentiation potential of human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAP)
Athina Bakopoulou,Gabriele Leyhausen,Joachim Volk,Asterios S. Tsiftsoglou,P. Garefis,Petros Koidis,Werner Geurtsen,Werner Geurtsen +7 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that different types of dental MSCs can be used in tissue engineering/regeneration protocols as an approachable stem cell source for osteo/odontogenic differentiation and biomineralization that could be further applied for stem cell-based clinical therapies.
Journal ArticleDOI
ROS formation and glutathione levels in human oral fibroblasts exposed to TEGDMA and camphorquinone.
TL;DR: Data show that TEGDMA and CQ released into an aqueous environment from resinous materials might interact, thus generating significant cytotoxic effects even at low concentrations, and may cause cell damage due to various mechanisms, GSH decrease and/or ROS increase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of three resin monomers on the cellular glutathione concentration of cultured human gingival fibroblasts
TL;DR: Data indicate that the investigated resins may cause cell damage due to depletion of intracellular GSH level even at low concentrations within a short period of time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the Impact of Two Different Isolation Methods on the Osteo/Odontogenic Differentiation Potential of Human Dental Stem Cells Derived from Deciduous Teeth
Athina Bakopoulou,Gabriele Leyhausen,Joachim Volk,Asterios S. Tsiftsoglou,P. Garefis,Petros Koidis,Werner Geurtsen +6 more
TL;DR: DTSCs isolated using either method displayed an active potential for cellular migration and biomineralization, giving rise to 3D mineralized structures when challenged with dexamethasone, monopotassium phosphate, and β-glycerophosphate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation and prolonged expansion of oral mesenchymal stem cells under clinical-grade, GMP-compliant conditions differentially affects "stemness" properties.
Athina Bakopoulou,Athina Bakopoulou,Danae Anastasia Apatzidou,Eleni Aggelidou,Evangelia Gousopoulou,Evangelia Gousopoulou,Gabriele Leyhausen,Joachim Volk,Aristeidis Kritis,Petros Koidis,Werner Geurtsen +10 more
TL;DR: These findings indicate there is still a vacant role for development of qualified protocols for clinical-grade expansion of oral MSCs; a key milestone achievement for translation of research from the bench to clinics.
