Abstract: This paper presents a study on the application of reset control principles to the field of teleoperation based on passivity. The main problem addressed here is the effect of the communication delay. The proposed ideas provide a novel approach which combines the robustness derived from the passivity techniques with the performance improvement enabled by the reset strategy. Results on the stability of the overall setup are presented and simulation examples confirm the good behavior of the proposed solutions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors extended previous stability results of autonomous reset control systems to the case in which external inputs, such as references and disturbances inputs, are present, and used a passivity approach to investigate the L2-stability of reset control system.
Abstract: This work extends previous stability results of autonomous reset control systems to the case in which external inputs, such as references and disturbances inputs, are present. The Hbeta-condition, that has been developed in the framework of Lyapunov stability for the autonomous system, has been used and extended to approach the problem of input-output stability. By using a passivity approach, L2-stability of reset control systems is investigated. First, with respect to reference inputs and full reset compensation, by directly using the Hbeta-condition; and secondly, with respect to both reference and disturbance inputs, and allowing partial or full reset, where a new condition referred to as the Hgamma-condition is developed.
