Disclosed herein are liquid-crystal display (LCD) touch screens that integrate the touch sensing elements with the display circuitry. The integration may take a variety of forms. Touch sensing elements can be completely implemented within the LCD stackup but outside the not between the color filter plate and the array plate. Alternatively, some touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates with other touch sensing elements not between the plates. In another alternative, all touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates. The latter alternative can include both conventional and in-plane-switching (IPS) LCDs. In some forms, one or more display structures can also have a touch sensing function. Techniques for manufacturing and operating such displays, as well as various devices embodying such displays are also disclosed.

The present invention relates to RFID devices, including handheld RFID devices, and applications for such devices. The devices and applications may be used in connection with items that are associated with an RFID tag, and optionally a magnetic security element. Applications for radio frequency identification systems

A radio frequency identification device comprises an integrated circuit including a receiver, a transmitter, and a microprocessor. The receiver and transmitter together define an active transponder. The integrated circuit is preferably a monolithic single die integrated circuit including the receiver, the transmitter, and the microprocessor. Because the device includes an active transponder, instead of a transponder which relies on magnetic coupling for power, the device has a much greater range.

Radio frequency data communications device

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for receiving data from a giver at a first time, the data being used to identify a merchant at which a gift from the giver to a recipient is redeemable. The system presents a group of merchants associated with the data to the giver, each merchant of the group of merchants offering a promotion in connection with the gift. The system receives from the giver a selection of a chosen merchant from the group of merchants, the chosen merchant having an associated promotion. The system then generates a policy comprising the gift, the chosen merchant, and the associated promotion such that upon receiving an indication of a triggering event caused by the recipient, the system can apply the gift and the associated promotion according to the policy.

Analyte monitoring system and methods

A duplex radio communication system includes an Interrogator which generates a first modulated signal by modulating a first information signal onto a radio carrier signal. The Interrogator transmits the first modulated signal to at least one remote Tag of the system. The remote Tag receives and processes the first modulated signal received at its Antenna. A Backscatter Modulator uses a second information signal to modulate the reflection of the first modulated signal from the Antenna, the reflected signal being a second modulated signal. The Interrogator receives and demodulates the second modulated signal to obtain the second information signal.

Full duplex modulated backscatter system

A Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) duplex radio communication system uses an Interrogator to generate a first radio signal by modulating a first information signal onto a radio carrier signal which is sent to at least one remote Tag of the system. The remote Tag receives and modulates a second information signal onto a second radio carrier signal to form a second modulated signal which is transmitted, in a time-slotted manner, back to the Interrogator. The remote Tag selects, or is instructed, how many times it should repetitively transmit the second modulated signal; and selects, or is instructed, over how many of the time slots following receipt of the first radio signal the remote Tag should repetitively transmit the second modulated signal. Other embodiments use Modulated Backscatter to transmit the second modulated signal, and use homodyne detection to demodulate the second modulated signal. A Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) duplex radio communication system embodiment utilizes multiple subcarrier frequencies and another embodiment combines the FDMA and the TDMA methods. A Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) embodiment utilizes multiple spreading codes and another embodiment combines the CDMA and the TDMA methods.

Enhanced uplink modulated backscatter system

The present invention enables a Tag and Interrogator to exchange proprietary information using Modulated BackScatter (MBS) technology. This invention discloses a method for encrypting the RFID user's PIN and thereby making the interception and the subsequent illegal use of RFID accounts at least as difficult as a present day ATM cards. For example, the encryption method can be based upon the US Digital Encryption Standard (DES), either first or third level. The Tag's personal encryption key is only known by the financial database and the RFID Tag. This method can be applied to any type of financial, debt, identification, or credit card.

Encryption for modulated backscatter systems

A system provides short range wireless data communication from a central control point (e.g., interrogator) to inexpensive endpoints (e.g., tags). The endpoints utilize the technology of modulated backscatter for transmission from the tags to the interrogator. The system uses a new downlink protocol for data transmission from the interrogator to the tags and a new uplink protocol for data transmission from the tags to the interrogator. Both protocols use a backoff/retry algorithm to randomly retransmit any non-acknowledged messages. System capacity from the tags to the interrogator is further enhanced by the use of uplink subcarrier frequency division multiplexing.

System for short range wireless data communication to inexpensive endpoints

In a radio frequency identification communication system, a communication protocol advantageously controls communication between an interrogator and one or more identifying labels or read/write tags. This protocol is configurable in two modes in which a read/write tag can be expected to operate. In the first mode, a rapid transfer of a limited amount of data takes place between the interrogator and one or more tags. In the second mode, a slower or less time critical transfer of a large quantity of data in a packet format takes place. In this second mode, a communication to the other tags causes these tags to remain "silent" so that they do not corrupt the data transfer in progress. The interrogator automatically determines the quantity of data and the correct mode in which to operate. Either mode can be initiated on successive communication periods by the communication protocol. The data transfer may occur either from the interrogator to a tag or multiple tags, or from a selected tag or multiple tags to the interrogator. The protocol allows either mode to be executed interchangeably. A downlink synchronization signal is transmitted from the interrogator to the tag at regular intervals with a portion of the synchronization signal being used to control the subsequent data transfer mode.
