An etendue efficient angle conversion system that operates in a quasi-imaging mode. This system is capable of generating angular and spatial axial asymmetric output beams (R, G, B) and is also capable of incorporating therein optional color reformatting capabilities (230). With the aid of anamorphic beam transformer such asymmetric beams can further be reformatted to spatially and angularly match particular illumination needs of a target. This system can further be applied to the design of fiber optic illumination systems and projection display systems and can further be combined with delivery efficiency maximization concepts. In addition, delivery efficiency improvements of light engines can be obtained with the use of optimized lamp, reflector, integrators, anamorphic beam transformers, coupling optics, etc.

Efficient light engine systems, components and methods of manufacture

A fiber optic probe and optical coupler assembly for light scattering measurements, and a method for making the assembly and aligning a plurality of optical fibers therein. The probe includes a probe body with a window across its tip for protecting the interior, at least one light-transmitting fiber, at least one light-receiving fiber, and (if desired), in-line devices such as filters and lenses positioned in optical communication with the fibers. A fiber optic coupler maintains the relative alignment of the fibers, which can be cut to install filters and other in-line devices. The coupler allows the cut ends to be re-aligned quickly and accurately without the need for time-consuming procedures or costly precision alignment equipment. The probe is simple, rugged, requires no high-precision machining or optical alignment procedures in assembly, and is economical to manufacture.

Fiber optic probe

The present invention concerns a lighting display system (100). The system includes at least one non-transparent cable (114) for transmitting light, at least one light emitting diode (126) disposed at a first end (130) of at least a portion of the non-transparent cables, a light emitting controller (110) to control the intensity of light emanating from the light emitting diodes and receiving structure (116) for receiving a second end (132) of at least a portion of the non-transparent cables. At least a portion of the second ends of the non-transparent cables emit light from the light emitting diodes. The receiving structure is incorporated into infrastructure, and the system displays at least one design. In one arrangement, the design can be an advertisement or can simulate a floor covering, and the floor covering to be simulated can be carpeting. The infrastructure can be a travelway that supports at least one of vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic.

Lighting display system

A fibre-optic light guide which is resistant to high temperatures in its end-face region, comprises one end of a bundle of optical fibres 1 and a glass tube portion 4 fused onto this end, the end face 5 being polished. The fibre-optic light guide is distinguished by the fact that both the glass tube portion 4 and the bundle of optical fibres 1 consist of glass that is resistant to high temperatures and the tube portion 4 is so shrunk onto the bundle of optical fibres 1 over a defined length that the gaps between the individual optical fibres 1, and/or between the optical fibres 1 and the tube portion 4 are at least partially filled by the material of the glass tube portion 4 and/or by the material of the optical fibre sleeves 6.

Fibre-optic light guide which is resistant to high temperatures in its end-face region

A fiber optic Raman probe and optical coupler assembly, and a method for making the assembly and reproducibly aligning a plurality of optical fibers therein. The probe includes a housing or probe body, a probe tip with a window for protecting the interior of the housing, at least one light-transmitting fiber, at least one light-receiving fiber spaced apart from the light-transmitting fiber, an optical coupler, and (if desired), in-line devices such as filters and lenses positioned in optical communication with the fibers. The coupler assembly includes aligning means that helps maintain the fibers in precise, reproducible relative alignment of the fibers; thus, the assembly with the fibers can be cut to install filters and other in-line devices, then readily re-assembled with the cut ends accurately re-aligned, for use. The probe is simple and rugged, and can be manufactured and assembled without the need for high-precision machining or optical alignment procedures.

Fiber optic raman probe and coupler assembly

A FIBER OPTIC TERMINATION SUITABLE FOR HIGHER TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS IS FORMED USING A CERAMIC-BASED BONDING AGENT; THE FIBER BUNDLE IS INSERTED THROUGH THE TERMINATION END PLUG AND THE BONDING AGENT APPLIED TO THE TIPS OF THE FIBERS; THE FIBER BUNDLE IS THEN PULLED BACK THROUGH THE PLUG WITHDRAWING THE FIBER TIPS INTO THE PLUG UNTIL THE TIPS ARE FLUSH WITH THE PLUG TERMINATION END; THE TERMINATION IS COMPLETED BY BINDING THE FIBER OPTIC BUNDLE IN THE PORTION EMERGING FROM THE OTHER END OF THE PLUG WITH AN ELASTIC MATERIAL THEREBY ISOLATING THE BRITTLE CERAMICALLY BONDED REGION OF THE FIBER BUNDLE FROM THE FLEXING PORTION OF THE BUNDLE.
