Advancements of wave energy converters based on power take off (PTO) systems: A review

A wave-powered water vehicle includes a surface float, a submerged swimmer, and a tether which connects the float and the swimmer, so that the swimmer moves up and down as a result of wave motion. The swimmer includes one or more fins which interact with the water as the swimmer moves up and down, and generate forces which propel the vehicle forward. The vehicle, which need not be manned, can carry communication and control equipment so that it can follow a course directed by signals sent to it, and so that it can record or transmit data from sensors on the vehicle.

Extracting power from moving water

Systems and methods for carrying out seismic surveys and/or conducting permanent reservoir monitoring with autonomous or remote-controlled water vehicles, including surface and submersible vehicles, are described. Additional methods carried out by autonomous or remote-controlled water vehicles and associated with seismic surveys are further described.

Marine seismic survey systems and methods using autonomously or remotely operated vehicles

The present disclosure generally relates to the use of a self-propelled underwater vehicle for seismic data acquisition. The self-propelled underwater vehicle is adapted to gather seismic data from the seafloor and transmit such data to a control vessel. The self-propelled underwater vehicle may be redeployed to several seafloor locations during a seismic survey. Methods for real-time modeling of a target zone and redeployment of the self-propelled underwater vehicle based on the modeling are also described.

Seismic data acquisition using self-propelled underwater vehicles

Wave energy devices which employ the properties of aerofoil sectioned wings to extract energy in the form of thrust from water agitated by waves, wherein the wing (10) is positioned as close as practicable to the surface, where water movement is at its maximum, and constrained against substantial movement perpendicular to the transverse chordal plane (17) of the wing thus utilizing the kinetic energy of the moving water directly to produce a nett thrust (16) in the chordal plane of the wing. In one form, aerofoil sectioned wings may be fitted to the hull of a ship to project laterally therefrom and be subject to wave motion. In alternative forms, aerofoil sectioned wings may be applied to rotors submerged in wave agitated water, thrust generated in the wings causing rotation of the rotor to drive a load. Support means to vary the attitude of the wings within a predetermined range of angles of attack relative to apparent flow of the water are also disclosed.
