Hydrological connectivity: Linking concepts with practical implications

TL;DR: A framework to obtain field-based knowledge, in which both structure and function are considered, is proposed, based on a nested approach, and requires an effective description of all relevant components of the system and an understanding of the processes and feedbacks taking place within and between different scales in relation to connectivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resistance to overland flow on semiarid grassland and shrubland hillslopes, Walnut Gulch, southern Arizona

TL;DR: One hundred and thirty six experiments were conducted on runoff plots on semiarid grassland and shrubland hillslopes at Walnut Gulch, Arizona as mentioned in this paper, and the results suggest that for most purposes the extra effort involved in measuring or modeling flow rate is not worth the small improvement in predictive accuracy and therefore that the practice of estimating resistance to overland flow solely on the basis of surface properties is entirely reasonable.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of slope estimates from low resolution DEMs: scaling issues and a fractal method for their solution

TL;DR: In this paper, a variogram technique for the definition of fractal parameters is demonstrated to provide a relationship between slope and the spatial resolution of measurement, and a model is developed to estimate the high resolution slope based on the coarse resolution digital elevation models (DEMs).
