Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term Effect of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Hypertensive Patients with Sleep Apnea
Ferran Barbé,Joaquín Durán-Cantolla,Francisco Capote,Mónica de la Peña,Eusebi Chiner,Juan F. Masa,Mónica González,Jose M. Marin,Francisco García-Río,Josefa Diaz de Atauri,Joaquín Terán,Mercedes Mayos,Carmen Monasterio,Félix del Campo,Sivia Gomez,Manuel Sánchez de la Torre,M. Martínez,Jose M. Montserrat +17 more
TL;DR: In nonsleepy hypertensive patients with OSA, CPAP treatment for 1 year is associated with a small decrease in BP, and this effect is evident only in patients who use CPAP for more than 5.6 hours per night.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cancer Incidence in a Large Multicenter Spanish Cohort
Francisco Campos-Rodriguez,Miguel Ángel Martínez-García,Montserrat Martínez,Joaquín Durán-Cantolla,Mónica de la Peña,María José Masdeu,Mónica González,Félix del Campo,Inmaculada Gallego,Jose M. Marin,Ferran Barbé,Jose M. Montserrat,Ramon Farré +12 more
TL;DR: Increased overnight hypoxia as a surrogate of OSA severity was associated with increased cancer incidence, and this association seems to be limited to men and patients younger than 65 years of age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alternative methods of titrating continuous positive airway pressure: a large multicenter study.
Juan F. Masa,Antonio León Jiménez,Joaquín Durán,Francisco Capote,Carmen Monasterio,Mercedes Mayos,Joaquín Terán,Lourdes Hernández,Ferran Barbé,Andrés Maimó,Manuela Rubio,Jose M. Montserrat +11 more
TL;DR: Autoadjusted titration at home and predicted formula titration with domiciliary adjustment can replace standard titration in sleep apnea patients, which could lead to considerable savings in cost and to significant reductions in the waiting list.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continuous positive airway pressure as treatment for systemic hypertension in people with obstructive sleep apnoea: randomised controlled trial.
Joaquín Durán-Cantolla,Felipe Aizpuru,Jose M. Montserrat,Eugeni Ballester,Joaquín Terán-Santos,Jose Ignacio Aguirregomoscorta,Mónica González,Patricia Lloberes,Juan F. Masa,Mónica de la Peña,Santiago J. Carrizo,Mercedes Mayos,Ferran Barbé,Spanish Sleep +13 more
TL;DR: CPAP produced a statistically significant reduction in blood pressure in patients with systemic hypertension and obstructive sleep apnoea, and taking into account the prevalence of hypertension and the likelihood of comorbidities, the decrease inBlood pressure, although minimal, may be beneficial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Release of peptide leukotriene into nasal secretions after local instillation of aspirin in aspirin-sensitive asthmatic patients
César Picado,I. Ramis,J. Roselló,J. Prat,Oriol Bulbena,Vicente Plaza,Jose M. Montserrat,Emilio Gelpí +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that an abnormal release of PeptLTs in ASA-sensitive asthmatic patients contributes to nasal and bronchial adverse reactions and the lack of effects on PGD2 release suggests that mast cells from ASA-insensitive patients are more sensitive to ASA than those from sensitive asthmatics and healthy subjects.
