A method of monitoring an element in wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first device, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the element to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first device to create an open band or by suppressing an input of the antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the element of the wireless communication network. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the element may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of components of the wireless communication system in a leakage path of the leakage signal.

Gain measurement and monitoring for wireless communication systems

Traffic information, including traffic flow information and traffic incident information, obtained through a traffic management system for providing and facilitating the exchange of traffic information between a remote location and a vehicle may be presented to a user on a user display in the vehicle. In one embodiment, traffic information provided to a vehicle navigation device is refined by comparing the average speed of the vehicle against the average speed of other vehicles traveling along the same road. In another embodiment, the operation of a traffic signal is controlled based, in part, on the current traffic flow and distance from the traffic signal to alleviate traffic congestion.

Method for refining traffic flow data

An apparatus for judging the quality of mobile data communication has: (1) a unit for amplifying an incoming electric wave and detecting the strength of the received electric field; (2) a data communication judgement unit for previously setting a limit of data communication, and comparing the reference value with an output from the electric field strength detector unit (3) a visible display unit for visually displaying the received electronicfield signal when the strength of the received electric field is more than the judgment reference value; (4) a digital output terminal for outputting a digital control signal to control a modem; and (5) an audible tone generator for producing a continuous tone or an intermittent tone from a speaker to clearly inform an operator of the quality of the data communication when the strength of the received electric field is less than the judgment reference value.

Apparatus for judging the quality of mobile data communication

A radio paging test system for testing the sensitivity of a radio receiver which receives a group of transmitted signals from a transmitter. Each transmitted signal in the group of transmitted signals is detected ad then compared to a reference signal to determine the degree of similarity between the reference signal and the detected signal. Each detected signal is classified either as a missed page, a non-page or a decoded page depending on the degree of similarity between the detected signal and the reference signal. In one mode of operation the classification of each detected signal is indicated by a classification signal which may be utilized to activate an alert such as a transducer or LED. Each classification signal may be directed to a computer input for analysis. In another mode of operation the classification signals are further analyzed to determine if the pager sensitivity is above, below or at a predetermined level. An alert indicating the pager sensitivity is then generated.

Method and apparatus for offset cancellation in a wireless receiver

Circuitry for attachment to a radio receiver to monitor and test a detected intermediate frequency signal and an audio signal from a demodulator portion of the receiver to determine whether a transmitted radio frequency signal is within frequency tolerances and modulation limits and to provide an alarm, either visual or audio, when the limits or tolerances are exceeded. An off frequency monitor tests the DC component of the radio demodulator detected IF signal and includes input signal conditioning circuitry for filtering the audio signal, high impedance for minimal loading of the radio, and level shifting. Upper and lower level voltage references indicate maximum permissible frequency deviation from the nominal transmitting frequency. Upper and lower level comparators compare the conditioned direct current (DC) signal to the respective voltage references and provide a changed output state upon an out of tolerance transmission. An over modulation detector, generally in parallel with the off frequency monitor, provides a changed output state of a minimum time duration whenever the modulation limits are exceeded, and includes AC coupling to block the DC component of the radio detector signal, a voltage reference indicative of the maximum modulation level, a comparator for comparing the audio signal to the voltage reference, pulse stretching circuitry to provide a minimum time duration output for intermittent over modulation conditions. The frequency monitor and modulation detector independently control switching of alarm circuitry to enable either a light emitting diode, or a volume controlled audio oscillator.
