A decorative bed ruffle is capable of installation on a mattress foundation such as a box spring without removal of an upper mattress therefrom. A band of elastically stretchable material forms a closed loop adapted to be stretched to pass over the upper mattress and grippingly retained on the sides of the mattress foundation. The width of the band is such that top and bottom edge portions of the band will extend over and elastically grip top and bottom edge 5 of the mattress foundation, respectively. A decorative skirt is attached to the band ofmaterial in overlapping relation therewith, for covering at least part of a central portion of the band extending over the foundation sidewalls, and at least part of the space between the mattress foundation and a supporting floor surface. In addition to easing installation, the inventive bed ruffle provides greater retention on the foundation, permits adjustment of the skirt drop to accommodate differentheight bed frames and foundations, and can accommodate a range of mattress sizesand shapes.

Fitted mattress cover and method of making same

A mattress covering in the form of a fitted mattress pad or fitted sheet has an inelastic, generally rectangular top portion and a skirt of inelastic material extending transversely, preferably perpendicularly from the outer periphery of the top portion in a closed loop entirely around the outer periphery of the top portion. A first elastic cord is secured to the skirt at its outer periphery remote from the top portion. A second, separate elastic cord is secured to the skirt at some place between and spaced apart from the top panel portion and the first elastic cord, preferably closer to the top portion outer periphery than to the first elastic cord. The skirt can be made of two layers of a textile material, each layer being a single panel, or it can be made of multiple panels or lengths of other materials for each layer. The two skirt layers are attached to each other and either or both elastic members can be attached to either or both of the inelastic fabric layers by surface bonding, particularly by ultrasonic spot welding. The top portion is dimensioned to fit a standard size mattress and the skirt is dimensioned to fit a range of mattress heights.

Mattress coverings and methods of making

The invention comprises a mattress cover, mattress cover skirt material and methods of making the same, wherein the skirt material has inelastic stretch in the longitudinal and cross directions and the stretch in the cross direction is considerably greater than the stretch in the longitudinal direction. The mattress cover skirt material also includes a top edge comprised of elastic yarns for providing a reinforced attachment edge and a bottom edge comprised of elastic yarns for pulling the mattress cover skirt material under mattresses.

A fitted mattress cover for enveloping the top, side and end surfaces of a mattress is constructed to accommodate a range of mattress peripheral sizes and thicknesses. The construction utilizes composite end panels which include stretch end panels covering lower partial portions of the mattress end surfaces and which impart recovery forces to effectively grip the mattress and thereby minimize the shifting of the cover relative to the mattress At the same time, the look and feel of the mattress covering, which may be of importance especially in the case of a fitted sheet, is improved, by virtue of the fact that the side panels can be formed as uninterrupted unitary extensions of the material forming the top side panel, or other material based upon aesthetic considerations, as can upper partial portions (extension end panels) of the composite end panels.
