TL;DR: It is shown that the dynamics of the load provide a feedback path which can influence the damping of modal oscillations of the system, which is very dependent on load parameters as well as the system configuration.
Abstract: This paper explains the interaction between dynamic loads and power systems. Based on a generic model of dynamic loads. The frequency response of such load is discussed. The generic model of dynamic loads is used to investigate the effects of load dynamics on damping of the oscillations in single machine and multi machine power system. The effects of active and reactive power dynamics of the load when acting separately and simultaneously are presented. It is shown that the dynamics of the load provide a feedback path which can influence the damping of modal oscillations of the system. This influence is very dependent on load parameters as well as the system configuration. Under some circumstances damping can be improved, but under other conditions dynamic load may cause a decrease in damping.
