Fundamental and practical developments of magnetofluidized beds : a review

A device and methods for extracorporeal treatment of fluids, such as blood, for effective plasmafiltration or hemofiltration alone or in combination with dialysis. The preferred devices (10) is a circuit that may include a dialyzer (20), a plasmafilter (30), a sorbent pump (40) to circulate a treatment sorbent solution, a sorbent container (32), and a leak detector (50) may be located downstream from the filtration member.

Removal of organic sulfur compounds, especially aromatic sulfur compounds from an FCC feedstock with minimal adsorption of aromatic hydrocarbons is achieved using a zeolite X exchanged with alkali or alkaline earth cations. KX is an especially effective adsorbent. Where the KX is loaded with a group VIII metal, particular palladium or platinum, the adsorbent is effectively regenerated by treatment with hydrogen at elevated temperatures.

Process and means for down stream processing

A method for separating gases or other fluids involves placing a magnetic field on a monolithic carbon fiber composite sorption material to more preferentially attract certain gases or other fluids to the sorption material to which a magnetic field is applied. This technique may be combined with the known "pressure swing adsorption" technique utilizing the same sorption material.

The sorption process involves combining a simulated countercurrent flow system with a stationary magnetically stabilized fluidized bed to achieve continuous adsorption-desorption to separate components of a feedstream.
