A temperature conditioning system employing an ejector-type compressor and a refrigerant selected for operation at the limited operating temperatures of a heat energy collection and storage apparatus. Improved performance may be achieved by employing a two-tank storage system having a control circuit for supplying heat transfer medium from the hotter of the tanks for return to the cooler.

Temperature conditioning system suitable for use with a solar energy collection and storage apparatus or a low temperature energy source

Solar energy is utilized to augment the heater of a water heating system, such as a domestic hot water system, having a water storage and heating tank by conducting water to the tank through a solar energy storage tank and circulating a heat transport liquid through a solar collector and selectively through the solar tank and water tank in response to the collector temperature, the solar tank temperature, and the water tank temperature, in a manner such that heat transport liquid flow occurs in a normal solar energy storage mode through the collector and the solar tank under a first set of temperature conditions, and cascade fashion through the collector, the water tank, and then the solar tank in a cascade solar energy storage mode under a second set of temperature conditions and in a maximum solar energy storage mode under a third set of temperature conditions. Heat transport liquid flow may occur through the solar collector and solar tank in response to a preset low collector temperature to prevent freezing of liquid in the collector, and the water tank heater may be shut off in response to a high collector and water temperature condition to conserve energy. The invention also provides novel solar collector and tank heat exchanger structures for the heating system.

A system for economically storing solar energy in the form of heated water. The system includes an above ground swimming pool in conjunction with a solar collector whereby the water of the pool is heated and stored therein until needed for use. In one form of the invention, the solar collector comprises a solar cover overlying or floating on the water in the pool. The cover is provided with an inlet and outlet through which the pool water is circulated and heated by the solar energy penetrating the cover. In another form the solar collector comprises a remotely disposed collector comprising a covered box having therein a plurality of channels connected in liquid flow with the pool water.

System for storage and use of solar energy

Paving and solar energy utilization systems and methods disclosed herein include a fluid carrying conduit embedded in paving such as in a roadway or roofing exposed to solar energy. Fluid circulated through the conduit is heated by the paving and cools the paving thereby prolonging its useful life and reducing heat transmission through the roofing to the interior of the building. Large amounts of useable energy may be provided by a solar collector forming part of and generally concealed within structures having other useful functions such as a roadway, roofing and so forth. Additionally, the fluid carrying conduit of such a collector may alternatively carry a heated fluid as is customary for snow and ice removal. Specific examples of solar systems and methods of this type include heating swimming pool water by use of a collector forming part of a parking lot and/or roofing paving, and generating electric power by use of a collector forming part of a highway roadway, for example.
