The invention provides a vehicle security device with an electronic use-authorization coding arrangement for preventing unauthorized access to the vehicle. The vehicle security device utilizes digital signature algorithm for encrypting and transmitting authorization and synchronization information, so that the storage of secret information is essential only at the key unit in order to transmit authorization and/or synchronizing information from the key unit to the vehicle unit in a way which is very effectively protected against falsification. Thus, reading out vehicle unit information does not permit unauthorized manufacture of a copied key.

A remote-control lock system has a transmitter that can be set to emit any one of a succession of differently coded signals, a receiver that can be set to respond to any one of the succession of signals, and a lock operable by the receiver when it receives the signal it is set to. Initially the transmitter is set to emit a predetermined one of the succession of signals and the receiver is set to respond to the predetermined one of the signals. Thereafter, after each emission by the transmitter and reception by the receiver, the transmitter and receiver are reset to the next of the signals in the succession except after the last signal of the succession has been emitted and received in which case the transmitter and receiver are reset to the first of the succession of signals. Thus each actuation of the transmitter change the code that will open the lock.

A control system utilizes a multiplex communication system for switchably operating power windows, power seats, power door locks, power mirrors, accessory lighting, etc. Switches mounted on the driver door and elsewhere communicate with a door-mounted microcomputer, which scans the state of each switch, prioritizes the requests, and issues commands in accordance with algorithms to control the windows, door locks, etc. The system has three modes of operation: Asleep, Active, and Awake. In the Asleep mode electrical power consumption is very small, and only a selected few input sesors are periodically monitored as to status. If a door handle is lifted or other action starts, the system changes to an Active mode, in which many more sensors are periodically scanned, and most output motors can be operated. In the Awake mode, windows can also be operated.

A circuit arrangement is proposed for locking and unlocking protection systems by remote control, preferably on motor vehicles, a receiver which is arranged within the object to be protected responding to a specific pulse sequence which can be emitted by a signal transmitter which is located outside the object. In this case, it is intended to prevent a decoding of the pulse sequence by listening apparatuses, during locking and unlocking of the protection system. For this purpose, the pulse sequences generated by the signal transmitter (12) are transmitted with variable transmission power on every occasion after operation of the signal transmitter (12). In consequence, the transmission energy can be metered such that it is just adequate to reverse the protection system. In this case, the circuit arrangement is equally suitable for the protection of closed spaces, for locking and unlocking locking devices, and for monitoring objects.

A remote control for handling lorry loads uses a central transmitter and a ring line system with a supply line connected at one end to a voltage source, and coded receivers at the loads. A clock generator in the transmitter is connected to a clock line, and outputs from a cyclically operated counter can be selectively connected to a selection control line. Each receiver is connected by its reference voltage input to the supply line and by its operational voltage input to a line of the ring line system carrying pulses. An energy store is between the two inputs.

A monitoring device for program controlled devices, esp. microprocessor controlled vehicle systems, involves detecting a control pulse during each program cycle. It differentiates between faults arising during a program cycle, deciding whether they result from temporary faults or system failure. This enables use of a reliable criterion for operating an emergency switch. If no control pulse is detectd a new program cycle is initiated. A time element drives a coincidence circuit connected to the device so taht the coincidence circuit is switched when no further pulse is detected during the timer rest period.
