Nursing burnout is associated with reduced nursing performance outcomes Positive psychological capital is known to play an important role in improving workers' job performance However, the association among the three variables has rarely been addressed The purpose of this cross-sectional descriptive study was to explore the association between burnout and nursing performance outcomes among Korean nurses working at a tertiary hospital and the mediating role of psychological capital in this relationship Recruited through convenience sampling, a total of 285 nurses provided data on their demographic characteristics and completed a structured questionnaire consisting of items from the Professional Quality of Life Scale (burnout), Nursing Performance Scale, and Psychology Capital Questionnaire Descriptive statistics, student's t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analyses were used to analyze data The significance of the mediation effect was obtained using a bootstrap approach with the PROCESS macro The mean age of participants was 3051 years, and most participants were females (940%) and unmarried (716%); more than half (575%) experienced a severe workload The average (±standard deviation) scores of burnout, nursing performance outcomes, and positive psychological capital were 2877 ± 493, 298 ± 032, and 319 ± 045, respectively Burnout was associated with nursing performance among clinical nurses (β = -020, p < 0001) Positive psychological capital mediated the association between burnout and nursing performance outcomes (β = 041, p < 0001) These findings contribute to the understanding that burnout among nurses could be reduced by increased positive psychological capital, which results in improved performance outcomes The findings also indicate that interventions to improve positive psychological capital should be developed and implemented for nurses' burnout management and improvement in nursing performance outcomes

Moderating Effect of Burnout on the Relationship between Self-Efficacy and Job Performance among Psychiatric Nurses for COVID-19 in National Hospitals

This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the nursing performance and the convergence relationships of leisure satisfaction, job stress, and nursing performance among nurses. Participants included 150 nurses working at 2 hospitals in C city from August 3 to September 15, 2018. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA with Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression by SPSS 23.0 program. Nursing performance were significantly differences in age (F=4.78, p=.003), marital status (F=2.74, p=.007), length of clinical career (F=3.34, p=.012), and health condition (F=5.23, p=.002). Nursing performance was a positively correlated with leisure satisfaction (r=.32, p<.001) and a negatively correlated with job stress (r=-19, p=.020), and job stress was a negatively correlated with leisure satisfaction (r=-.32, p=.005). The factors affecting the nursing performance of clinical nurses were age (β=.20, p=.008) and leisure satisfaction (β=.28, p<.001), and these variables explained about 19.6% of the variance in nursing performance. In order to improve nursing performance, it is necessary to provide working environment and institutional support for increasing leisure satisfaction and reducing job stress and age-differentiated approaches

Convergence relationships between Leisure Satisfaction, Job Stress and Nursing Performance of Nurses

Objectives This study examined the mediating effects of anger expression in the relationship between work stress and burnout among nurses with more than or less than 3 years of career experience. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with 454 nurses working at three university hospitals in South Korea. Nurses completed a survey consisting of demographic questions, the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Work Stress Scale, and the Korean version of the Anger Expression Inventory. A multiple-group mediation analysis was performed using structural equation modeling. Results In total (N = 454), work stress directly affected burnout, and all anger expressions indirectly affected the relationship of work stress with burnout. Different mediating effects of anger expression style according to career experience were shown; anger-out and anger-in in nurses with less experience (n = 184) and only anger-in in those with more experience (n = 270) partially mediated the relationship of work stress with burnout. Conclusions and clinical relevance The indirect effect of anger-in style was higher than other anger expression styles in all nurses; suppression of anger caused by work stress can increase burnout. Anger-out played a functional role in the relationship of work stress with burnout among nurses who had less career experience. Therefore, to reduce burnout, creating a work environment with collaborative culture including authentic leadership and providing anger management programs will help to manage nurses' anger properly. For new nurses, promoting work and life balance, and creating a culturally empowering work environment to help them use anger-out expression constructively, are important to reduce burnout.
