A headlamp includes: a laser diode for emitting laser beam; a light-emitting section for emitting light when irradiated with the laser beam emitted from the laser diode; and a cooling device for cooling the light-emitting device by use of a fluid. With the arrangement, it is possible to prevent an increase in temperature of the light-emitting section which is irradiated with excitation light, and thereby to realize a light source of long lifetime.

The invention relates to a headlight comprising a cup-shaped reflector (1) with two focal points. The rotation axis (8) of a diaphragm shaft (3) disposed between a lens (2) and the reflector extends horizontally and transversally in relation to the optical axis. The diaphragm shaft can be adjusted in several rotating positions and has in each rotating position a focal line (4, 5, 6, 7) providing a light-and-dark border (19, 20, 21, 22) of a light figure (23, 24, 25, 26). The surface of the sheath (9) of the diaphragm shaft (3) extends at least in a surface section connecting two focal lines, in an irregular manner and deviating from a cylindrical surface (18).

A light emitting device of the present invention includes: a laser diode group which generates a plurality of laser beams; a cylindrical light emitting element which emits incoherent light in response to the plurality of laser beams; and a light guide irradiation section which (i) guides the plurality of laser beams entered via a light incidence plane toward a light irradiation plane and (ii) irradiates the light irradiation area of the cylindrical light emitting element with the plurality of laser beams thus guided. The light irradiation plane of the light guide irradiation section has an area which is smaller than that of the light incidence plane.

A headlamp 1 includes a laser diode 3 that emits a laser beam, a light emitting part 7 that emits light upon receiving the laser beam emitted from the laser diode 3, and a reflection mirror 8 that reflects the light emitted from the light emitting part 7. According to the headlamp 1, the light emitting part 7 has a luminance greater than 25 cd/mm2, and an area size of an aperture plane 8 a perpendicular to a direction in which an incoherent light travels outward from the headlamp 1 is less than 2000 mm2.

Vehicle headlamp and illuminating device

A headlamp is provided, which has lower power consumption, a longer service life and a more compact size and yet is capable of easily projecting visible light and near infrared light in desired light distribution patterns. The headlamp includes a wavelength converting member and an excitation light source. The wavelength converting member includes a visible light fluorescent material which is excited by excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to emit visible light, and a near infrared fluorescent material which is excited by the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source to emit near infrared light. The visible light and the excitation light are mixed together to generate white light. The excitation light source is a semiconductor solid-state element.
