Novel switching power converters using electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) as power backup are presented in this paper. The configurations of these circuits are very simple and the number of components in each converter is very small. The unbalance of voltages in EDLCs, that has been one of the main problems of the conventional circuit, does not occur in the new design. A prototype circuit has been built and tested. As a result, good backup performance has been obtained: the backup time when the input voltage source is disconnected is 11.7 sec for an output of 5.0 V and 2.0 A. The efficiency of the new circuit in steady-state operation is 90% for an output voltage of 5.0 V and an output current range of 2.0-4.0 A.

Switching converters using double-layer capacitors as power backup

The fundamental characteristics of the wireless rapid charger of super capacitor is investigated by experiments and simulation. This system is composed of the resonant half bridge inverter and the noncontact transformer. Based on the results, the frequency control method that can do the wireless rapid charge regardless of the relative position of the windings of the noncontact transformer is proposed. It can meet the resonance requirement and large charging current can be acquired by detecting the current of the primary switch and controlling the frequency of the inverter. Streszczenie. Badano eksperymentalnie i podczas symulacji numerycznych charakterystyki bezprzewodowego systemu szybkiego ladowania superkondensatora. System sklada sie z mostkowego przeksztaltnika rezonansowego i bezstykowego transformatora. Na podstawie wynikow zaproponowano nową czestotliwościową metode sterowania ladowarką, niezaleznie od wzajemnej pozycji uzwojen bezstykowego transformatora. Wireless Rapid Charger of Super Capacitor

The characteristics of electric doubie-layer capacitors (EDLCs) controlled by switching converters are in& clear. The maximum operating time, the energy availability versus the average output power of the system are analyzed. The selection policies of the series and/or parallel combination of EDLCs and the type of switching converter, that is, buck, boost and buck-boost, are discussed. As a result, the inforination to make a practical design easy has been obtained.
