Journal ArticleDOI

Unusual intra-cellular bacterial infection in large, free-living amoebae☆

TL;DR: Preliminary results on a strain of A. discoides heavily infected with bacteria are presented, which has some characters different from those of its uninfected counterpart.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Simple Method of Micrurgy on Living Cells

TL;DR: The present method differs from those used currently in that the need for a micro-hook to hold cells and the use of mineral oil (liquid paraffin) to prevent the evaporation of culture medium are eliminated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lethal effect of heterologous nuclei in amoeba heterokaryons.

TL;DR: The viability of heterokaryons obtained by nuclear transplantation between different strains of amoebae was studied and it was found that the latter were never viable, and more than 90 % of the host cells also failed to form clones when the heterologous nuclei were present 15 min or longer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nuclear control of cell movement in amoebae: Nuclear transplantation study

TL;DR: The results supported the view that the nucleus controls cell movement by mechanisms other than those of controlling cell reproduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Strain-specific mitotic inhibition in large mononucleate amoebae.

TL;DR: The results obtained show that the active factor is a protein(s) of molecular weight between 200,000 and one million, which differs from other known antimitotic agents in that its action is strain‐specific.
