This paper presents an intelligent streetlight management system based on LED lamps, designed to facilitate its deployment in existing facilities. The proposed approach, which is based on wireless communication technologies, will minimize the cost of investment of traditional wired systems, which always need civil engineering for burying of cable underground and consequently are more expensive than if the connection of the different nodes is made over the air. The deployed solution will be aware of their surrounding's environmental conditions, a fact that will be approached for the system intelligence in order to learn, and later, apply dynamic rules. The knowledge of real time illumination needs, in terms of instant use of the street in which it is installed, will also feed our system, with the objective of providing tangible solutions to reduce energy consumption according to the contextual needs, an exact calculation of energy consumption and reliable mechanisms for preventive maintenance of facilities.

An Easy to Deploy Street Light Control System Based on Wireless Communication and LED Technology

Indoor location identification technologies for real-time IoT-based applications: An inclusive survey

As the LEDpsilas lumen efficiency increases rapidly in recent years, many new LED illumination applications are emerging. LEDs have features such as long-life, small and low power consumption. Therefore, they are used in various occasion such as full color large sized LED displays, traffic lights, and etc. In this paper, an energy efficient street lighting system is proposed. The presented system consists of a LED lamp module, a digitally-controlled multi-phase driving system for LED lamp and an Ethernet-based communication interface. A developed prototype system will be presented in this paper and experiments will be performed to verify the correctness of the proposed system. According to the experimental results, the lighting efficiency is 85 % and the conversion efficiency is 90 %.

Development of an energy efficient street light driving system

Traditional road lighting systems are outdated and should be replaced with systems which can sense their environment, i.e., users and their consumer electronics (CE) devices, and react intelligently. Realizing such a system requires an interdisciplinary approach which analyzes the efficient system architecture and communication technology while taking into account the user needs. To understand these necessities, subjective experiments should be conducted in a practical testbed, similar to ours. In this paper, we first present the state-of-the-art solutions in the literature. Then, we describe the system architecture of our testbed deployed on a real street along with the preliminary experiments. Finally, we discuss the open challenges and research directions on designing a future intelligent road lighting system.

Exploring user-centered intelligent road lighting design: a road map and future research directions

Industry of street lighting systems are growing rapidly and going to complex with rapid growth of industry and cities. To control and maintain complex street lighting system more economically, various street light control systems are developed. Nevertheless most of developed systems have some drawbacks. So we are going to develop new light control system which can overcome old systems drawbacks. We surveyed various street light control systems and analyzed its characteristics. Through these efforts, we found that common drawbacks of most light control systems are uneasiness of handling and difficulty of maintenance. To reduce uneasiness of handling and difficulty of maintenance in operating light control system, we designed new street light control system by using Zigbee communication technique. Evaluation of Interruption Costs for Industrial Customers in Korea

As the power industry moves towards open competition, there has been a call for methodology to evaluate distribution power system reliability by using customer interruption costs. Accordingly, it is increased for methodology to evaluate distribution power system reliability in power supply zones under competitive electricity market. This paper presents algorithm to evaluate system average interruption duration index, expected energy not supplied and system outage cost taking into consideration failure rate of distribution facility and industrial customer interruption cost. Also, to apply this algorithm to evaluate system outage cost presented in this paper, distribution system of a dual supply system consisting of mostly high voltage customers in industrial complex in Korea is used as a sample case study. Finally, evaluation results of system interruption cost, system average interruption duration index and expected energy not supplied in sample industrial complex area are shown in detail
