A method for evaluating the base character of superconducting oxides has been developed. The average acid-base parameters of 26 different oxide superconductors were calculated. The results show that the average acid-base parameters of oxide superconductors with T c above 78 K are between −2.6 and −6. This implies that the good superconducting oxides are moderately basic or weakly basic. An acidic or strongly basic character of the oxides is unfavorable for enhancing T c . The base character of superconducting oxides has been verified by the wet experimental results.
