An apparatus for transmitting a file with enhanced transmission security through a network includes a file-splitting processor that splits the file into a plurality of message segments and addresses the plurality of message segments to a plurality of addresses assigned to a receiving host. The apparatus includes a message segment transmitter for transmitting the plurality of message segments to the receiving host.

Camouflage of network traffic to resist attack

The present invention describes a system and method for communicating voice and data over a packet-switched network that is adapted to coexist and communicate with a legacy PSTN. The system permits packet switching of voice calls and data calls through a data network from and to any of a LEC, a customer facility or a direct IP connection on the data network. The system includes soft switch sites, gateway sites, a data network, a provisioning component, a network event component and a network management component. The system interfaces with customer facilities (e.g., a PBX), carrier facilities (e.g., a LEC) and legacy signaling networks (e.g., SS7) to handle calls between any combination of on-network and off-network callers. The soft switch sites provide the core call processing for the voice network architecture. The soft switch sites manage the gateway sites in a preferred embodiment, using a protocol such as the Internet Protocol Device Control (IPDC) protocol to request the set-up and tear-down of calls. The gateway sites originate and terminate calls between calling parties and called parties through the data network. The gateway sites include network access devices to provide access to network resources. The data network connects one or more of the soft switch sites to one or more of the gateway sites. The provisioning and network event component collects call events recorded at the soft switch sites. The network management component includes a network operations center (NOC) for centralized network management.

Voice over data telecommunications network architecture

Method and apparatus providing connection-oriented services for packet switched data communications networks. Directory services include distributed discovery of MAC addresses and protocol alias addresses. Topology services include a link state topology exchange among switches, which provides each switch with a complete topology graph of the network. This enables an access switch receiving a data packet to determine a complete path from a source end system to a destination end system. Another service includes resolution of broadcast frames to unicast frames, in order to reduce the amount of broadcast traffic. Policy restrictions may be applied prior to connection setup. Path determination services enable multiple paths from a source to a destination. Connection management includes source routed mapping of connections on the desired path. A distributed call rerouting service is provided wherein if a link on an active path fails, each switch receives a topology change notification and unmaps any connection involving the failed link. A broadcast/unknown service provides restricted flooding of nonresolvable packets. Furthermore, connection-oriented switching is provided based on the source and destination MAC addresses as a connection identifier. Still further, resolution of networks outside the switch domain is enabled by access switches listening for network and server route advertisements and maintaining best routes to said networks and servers. The best route metrics may be combined with best path metrics to determine a path from a first access switch to an egress switch connected to the external network.

Distributed connection-oriented services for switched communication networks

A wireless network provides controlled wireless communications with multi-mode wireless WTRUs (33, 37). The wireless network has at least one base station (25) having a transceiver operating in an infrastructure communication mode withmulti mode WTRUs and a controller that transmits control signals via infrastructure communications with a WTRU that control peer-to-peer mode communications (40) of that WTRU with other WTRUs. A WTRU has transceiver components configured for selective operation in an infrastructure communication mode with a network base station and in a peer-to-peer communication mode with other WTRUs. The WTRU also has a transceiver controller configured to selectively control peer-to-peer mode communications with other WTRUs based on communication signals received in infrastructure communications with a network base station. Preferably, the transceiver controller is configured to control the transceiver components to switch between infrastructure communication mode and peer-to-peer communication mode based on(duality of Service criteria).

Wireless communication method and system with controlled WTRU peer-to-peer communications

The invention provides a method and system for switching in networks responsive to message flow patterns. A message “flow” is defined to comprise a set of packets to be transmitted between a particular source and a particular destination. When routers in a network identify a new message flow, they determine the proper processing for packets in that message flow and cache that information for that message flow. Thereafter, when routers in a network identify a packet which is part of that message flow, they process that packet according to the proper processing for packets in that message flow. The proper processing may include a determination of a destination port for routing those packets and a determination of whether access control permits routing those packets to their indicated destination.

Network flow switching and flow data export

A packet-based telecommunications architecture is disclosed that, like virtual-circuit networks, preserves the sequential order in which packets are presented to the network, but does not require node-by-node call set-up or tear-down, unlike virtual-circuit networks. Further, the packet switches which compose the architecture can be more simple than those used in datagram or virtual-circuit networks. An illustrative embodiment of the present invention comprises determining the topology of a network of packet switches that are connected by communication links, associating at least two names with at least one of the packet switches, and populating the router tables in the packet switches so that for each name the packet switches and communication links form a elemental network with the topology of a sink tree with the named packet switch at the root of the tree.

Packet-based telecommunications network

In a wireless packet (ATM) network that supports an integrated mix of multimedia traffic, a large variety of mobiles with different service rates will need to be accommodated efficiently in a unified bandwidth-on-demand fair-sharing manner. In this paper, we propose and study a Time-Frequency Slicing with Distributed-Queueing Request Update Multiple Access (DQRUMA) protocol for wireless packet (ATM) networks that support mixes of multi-rate traffics. The protocol incorporates Time-Frequency Slicing (an efficient multiplexing scheme for providing multi-rate packet transmissions) and DQRUMA (an efficient demand-assignment multiple access protocol for wireless access and scheduling) to form a unified bandwidth-on-demand platform for multi-rate wireless services. A slot-by-slot packet transmit scheduling policy named Bandwidth-on-Demand Fair-Sharing Round-Robin (BoD-FSRR) shares the system bandwidth amongst different rate classes of mobiles according to their demand on a fair-sharing basis. Simulation results show that the system provides close to ideal access performance for different rate classes of mobiles.
