Indoor positioning systems (IPS) use sensors and communication technologies to locate objects in indoor environments. IPS are attracting scientific and enterprise interest because there is a big market opportunity for applying these technologies. There are many previous surveys on indoor positioning systems; however, most of them lack a solid classification scheme that would structurally map a wide field such as IPS, or omit several key technologies or have a limited perspective; finally, surveys rapidly become obsolete in an area as dynamic as IPS. The goal of this paper is to provide a technological perspective of indoor positioning systems, comprising a wide range of technologies and approaches. Further, we classify the existing approaches in a structure in order to guide the review and discussion of the different approaches. Finally, we present a comparison of indoor positioning approaches and present the evolution and trends that we foresee.

Evolution of Indoor Positioning Technologies: A Survey

Wireless body area networks (WBANs) form a new and interesting area in the world of remote health monitoring. An important concern in such networks is the communication between the sensors. This communication needs to be energy efficient and highly reliable while keeping delays low. Mobility also has to be supported as the nodes are positioned on different parts of the body that move with regard to each other. In this paper, we present a new cross-layer communication protocol for WBANs: CICADA or Cascading Information retrieval by Controlling Access with Distributed slot Assignment. The protocol sets up a network tree in a distributed manner. This tree structure is subsequently used to guarantee collision free access to the medium and to route data towards the sink. The paper analyzes CICADA and shows simulation results. The protocol offers low delay and good resilience to mobility. The energy usage is low as the nodes can sleep in slots where they are not transmitting or receiving.

A low-delay protocol for multishop wireless body area networks

Purpose – Researchers debate whether tacit knowledge sharing through information technology (IT) is actually possible. However, with the advent of social web tools, it has been argued that most shortcomings of tacit knowledge sharing are likely to disappear. Towards tacit knowledge sharing over social web tools

Management of the enterprise architecture has become increasingly recognized as a crucial part of both business and IT management. Still, a common understanding and methodological consistency seems far from being developed. Acknowledging the significant role of research in moving the development process along, this article employs different bibliometric methods, complemented by an extensive qualitative interpretation of the research field, to provide a unique overview of the enterprise architecture literature. After answering our research questions about the collaboration via co-authorships, the intellectual structure of the research field and its most influential works, and the principal themes of research, we propose an agenda for future research based on the findings from the above analyses and their comparison to empirical insights from the literature. In particular, our study finds a considerable degree of co-authorship clustering and a positive impact of the extent of co-authorship on the diffusion of works on enterprise architecture. In addition, this article identifies three major research streams and shows that research to date has revolved around specific themes, while some of high practical relevance receive minor attention. Hence, the contribution of our study is manifold and offers support for researchers and practitioners alike.

An Exploration of Enterprise Architecture Research

RFID is not a new technology and has passed through many decades of use in military, airline, library, security, healthcare, sports, animal farms and other areas. Industries use RFID for various applications such as personal/vehicle access control, departmental store security, equipment tracking, baggage, fast food establishments, logistics, etc. The enhancement in RFID technology has brought advantages that are related to resource optimization, increased efficiency within business processes, and enhanced customer care, overall improvements in business operations and healthcare. Our research is part of a big project; its aim is to produce a model for mobile technology implementation of hospital patients’ movement process. However, the focus of this paper is to explore the main RFID components, i.e. the tag, antenna and reader. The results of the investigations conducted on the three RFID components will be used to develop our research model.

A Logical Temporal Relational Data Model

The proposed system is based on an ontology of health Care terminology including patients vital data, activities and as well as the treatment data. We will propose a conceptual temporal model for handling time varying attributes in the relational database model with minimal temporal attributes. The proposed model is easy to define, manage and incorporates the important and relevant features in the target temporal relational model. Furthermore we have illustrated implementation of the model on patient database and also present the requirement analysis: work flow for managing patients in hospital environment. In response to rising health care costs, reliability, privacy, security and changing expectations concerning the quality of health care, data management is very important in improving health care services.

TempR-PDM: a conceptual temporal relational model for managing patient data

The most important concern in the medical domain is to consider the interpretation of data and perform accurate diagnosis. To improve diagnostic process and avoid misdiagnosis, many e-Health systems use artificial intelligence method and especially artificial neural network to manipulate diverse type of clinical data. A common bone disease ‘osteoporosis’ does not only depend on bone mineral density but also some other factors have significance i.e. age, weight, height, life-style etc. these all factors play considerable role to diagnosis osteoporosis. In this study, we propose a decision making system using the factors other then bone mineral density to provide a convenient, accurate and inexpensive solution to predict future fracture risk.
