A tri-band dual-circularly polarized BeiDou navigation antenna based on metamaterial structure is proposed and designed in this paper. The antenna is a square loop which consists of four double periodic bridged composite right / left handed (DP B-CRLH) metamaterial unit cells, and is fed by single feed point. The DP B-CRLH unit cell which has multi-band and right / left handed propagation characteristics was used to realize the tri-band dual-circularly polarized antenna. The measured results show that the antenna receives right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) navigation signals in B2 band; radiates left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) short message communication signals in L band; receives RHCP short message communication signals in S band, simultaneously, and the bandwidths of axial ratio less than 3 dB are about 10%, 7.4% and 2.8%, respectively. S 11 < −10dB in the three operating frequency bands, meeting the official performance standard requirements of BeiDou navigation antenna.

Design of Tri-band Dual-circularly Polarized BeiDou Navigation Antenna Based on Metamaterial

A small ring antenna working at 2.45GHz was designed in this paper, a small disk-coupled structure was applied to feed an inner-hole-biased ring patch, contributing to not only improving the impedance characteristics of the antenna but also reducing the size. The simulation results show that the designed patch area is only 70.7% of that of the traditional circular microstrip antenna on the premise of ensuring good bandwidth and gain performance; the −10 dB bandwidth of S11 parameter is 62MHz; the gain of the maximum direction is 7.11 dB; and the circular polarization of the antenna is also realized. This design has also been compared with several conventional designs. It is proved that the antenna has good comprehensive performance, and the antenna feed structure is simple, easy to process, very conducive to engineering applications. Finally, the feasibility of this technology was verified by contrasting the measured data with the simulation data.

A small disk-coupled circularly polarized microstrip ring antenna for microwave energy harvesting

This paper proposes a novel stacked tri-band circularly polarized antenna which has three independent ports. To obtain tri-band operation, a stacked three layers of microstrip antenna working at different frequency is presented. Each of them is fed by dual feed probes. The simulated results show that the antenna can cover Compass Navigation Satellite System CNSS B3 1.268 GHz, L band 1.615 GHz and S band 2.49 GHz. The proposed antenna has achieved a bandwidth of 3.1%, 6.8% and 2.3% at each band, respectively. It exhibits small axial ratio under 3dB in three bands for the CNSS applications. Details of the proposed antenna design and results for the obtained tri-band circularly polarized performances are presented and discussed.
