A fully integrated, programmable mixed-signal transceiver comprising a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) which is frequency and protocol agnostic with digital inputs and outputs, the transceiver being programmable and configurable for multiple radio frequency bands and standards and being capable of connecting to many networks and service providers. The RFIC does not use spiral inductors and instead includes transmission line inductors allowing for improved scalability. Components of the transceiver are programmable to allow the transceiver to switch between different frequency bands of operating. Frequency switching can be accomplished though the content of digital registers coupled to the components.

Programmable radio transceiver

A polar modulation transmitter circuit provides reduced ACPR in its output signal by controlling the relative delay between its envelope and phase modulation operations based on direct or indirect feedback measurement the output signal's ACPR. Such measurement and associated control may be based on a delay controller that includes an ACPR measurement circuit and a delay control circuit. Additionally, or alternatively, the polar modulation transmitter circuit provides a greatly extended transmit power control range by using a staged amplifier circuit that includes a driver amplifier circuit operating in combination with a power amplifier circuit to impart desired envelope modulation. In an exemplary embodiment, the driver amplifier circuit is implemented as differential transistor pairs responsive to tail current modulation. As such, the driver amplifier circuit is suited in particular for economical and space saving integration within a transmitter or transceiver integrated circuit (IC).

Polar modulation transmitter

Techniques to determine the position of a terminal under the coverage of a repeater in a wireless communication system. In an aspect, an identification code is transmitted for each repeater and used by the terminal (or a PDE) to unambiguously identify the repeater. The identification codes for the repeaters in the system can be implemented with PN sequences at defined offsets that are specifically reserved for repeater identification. In another aspect, the identification code for each repeater is transmitted using a spread-spectrum signal designed to have minimal impact on the performance of the system and to be recoverable by the terminal in similar manner as for a forward modulated signal. In this way, no additional hardware is required for the terminal to recover the identifier signal. In one specific design, the spread spectrum identifier signal is generated in accordance with and conforms to the IS-95 CDMA standard.

The energy storage device is disposed within the cavity and is configured to supply power to the control module.
