An infusion pump assembly is disclosed. The infusion pump assembly includes a locking tab and a pump barrel inside a pump barrel housing, where the pump barrel accommodates a reservoir assembly. The reservoir assembly includes a reservoir and a plunger rod. The infusion pump assembly also includes a locking disc at a terminus of the pump barrel. The locking disc includes a clearance hole for the plunger rod. The locking disc also includes at least one locking tab notch in close proximity with the locking tab. The locking tab is in moveable engagement with the locking tab notch, and the reservoir moves the locking tab from a locked position to an unlocked position when the plunger rod is inserted through clearance hole. The locking disc rotates upon torque being applied to the reservoir assembly, the locking disc rotating from a non-loaded position to a loaded position with respect to the plunger rod and a drive screw.

Prospects and limitations of non-invasive blood glucose monitoring using near-infrared spectroscopy

Embodiments are directed to portable infusion devices, systems, and methods of using the same for dispensing materials. In some cases, the devices, systems and methods may be used for infusing a material such as medicament, e.g., insulin, into a body in need thereof.

A method of dispensing fluid includes three processes. A first one of these processes includes pumping fluid into a resilient variable-volume dispensing chamber. The dispensing chamber is in series with a normally present finite fluid impedance and an output. The impedance is sufficient so as to cause expansion of the dispensing chamber as it receives pumped fluid even while some fluid flows through the output. Another one of these processes includes repeatedly measuring a parameter related to volume of the dispensing chamber over time. A third one of these processes includes controlling the pumping of fluid based on repeated measurements of the parameter to produce a desired fluid flow through the output. A corresponding system for dispensing fluid implements these processes.

Fluid delivery systems and methods

A patch-sized fluid delivery device may include a reusable portion and a disposable portion. The disposable portion may include components that come into contact with the fluid, while the reusable portion may include only components that do not come into contact with the fluid. Redundant systems, such as redundant controllers, power sources, motor actuators, and alarms, may be provided. Alternatively or additionally, certain components can be multi-functional, such a microphones and loudspeakers that may be used for both acoustic volume sensing and for other functions and a coil that may be used as both an inductive coupler for a battery recharger and an antenna for a wireless transceiver. Various types of network interfaces may be provided in order to allow for remote control and monitoring of the device.

A disease management system, methods, and devices are shown and described. In one embodiment, the system includes an infusion pump and a remote controller with the ability to be paired to each other. A method to verify a wireless connection between an infusion pump and a remote controller is shown and described herein. In a further embodiment, a method to verify a wireless connection between an infusion pump and a remote controller is provided. In addition, a method of operating a diabetes management system is provided in which the system includes an infusion pump and at least a remote controller.

Systems and methods to pair a medical device and a remote controller for such medical device

Animas Corporation is developing a long-term (>5 years), implantable optical, blood glucose sensor based on near-infrared absorption spectroscopy. While the glucose sensing R & D community tends to over promise results to the general public without convincing scientific evidence due to the business potential for the sensing market, Animas would like to present solid data showing robust glucose calibration and prediction. In vitro data from whole blood in more than 500 patients, with various medical histories, shows an excellent correlation (R 2 =0.94) between glucose concentrations determined using sensor prediction and traditional fingerstick measurement. The numbers of outliers identified in the thousands of measurements from the 500 patient population are less than 1 %. Better than 13 mg/dl accuracy was achieved in dogs in in-vivo testing. Glucose data showing excellent tracking between measurements with the Animas sensor and a Hemocue glucometer will be presented. One of the technical challenges of developing the Animas implantable sensor is to fabricate laser diodes that have stable emission spectra, especially for those that emit in wavelength above 2 μm. Requirements for various kinds of diode light sources will be discussed.
