A systematic analysis of all naturally-occurring glycosylated bacterial secondary metabolites reported in the scientific literature up through early 2013 is presented. This comprehensive analysis of 15 940 bacterial natural products revealed 3426 glycosides containing 344 distinct appended carbohydrates and highlights a range of unique opportunities for future biosynthetic study and glycodiversification efforts.

In this paper, we describe the taxonomy of the producing organism, fermentation, isolation, physico-chemical properties and biological activities ofUCS1025A and B. The cultural and taxonomical characteristics of the producing fungal strain KY4917 were as follows. Colonies on 2% malt extract agar medium are 28 to 31mmin diameter after culturing at 25°C for 2 weeks. The surface of the colony is grayish brown at the center and beige or grayish white at the margin. The color of the reverse of the colony is reddish brown at the center and grayish brown at the margin. Soluble orange pigment is produced in the medium. Colonies on Potato-glucose agar medium are about 25mm in diameter after culturing at 25°C for 2 weeks. The color of the colony surface is cream or pale brown at the center and gray at the margin. The color of the reverse of the colony is pale brown to brown at the center and grayish white at the margin. Smooth and colorless hyphae are developed on Potato glucose agar medium. UCS1025A, a novel antibiotic produced by Acremonium sp.

In the course of screening for inhibitors of the lymphocyte kinase, Lck (p56lck), aiming at novel immunosuppressants, we isolated a novel alkaloid, lymphostin (LK6-A), from the culture broth of Streptomyces sp. KYI 1783. Lymphostin was produced in a fermentation medium supplemented with a highly porous polymer resin, which prevented the degradation of this compound in the culture broth. Lymphostin inhibited the kinase activity of Lck with an IC50 value of 0.05μM, and exhibited potent inhibitory activity against the mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) with an IC50 value of 0.009μM.

MS-271, a novel inhibitor of calmodulin-activated myosin light chain kinase from Streptomyces sp.—I. isolation, structural determination and biological properties of MS-271

EI-1941-1 and -2, novel interleukin-1 beta converting enzyme (ICE) inhibitors, were isolated from the culture broths of Farrowia sp. E-1941. EI-1941-1 and -2 selectively inhibited the human recombinant ICE activity with IC50 values of 0.086 and 0.006 microM, respectively. Taxonomy and fermentation of the producing strain and isolation, physico-chemical properties, structure elucidation, and biological properties of EI-1941-1 and -2 are described.
