A tunnel-expansion portion is provided at a front portion of a tunnel portion. The tunnel-expansion portion projects upward greatly and widely so as to provide components of an exhaust system that extend rearward from an exhaust manifold therein (outside a vehicle compartment). Accordingly, there can be provided a front structure of a vehicle, in which an engine is laterally disposed in an engine room at a front portion of the vehicle, an intake pipe is disposed in front of the engine, and an exhaust pipe is disposed in back of the engine, which can improve an exhaust efficiency and a vehicle safety against a vehicle crash, without providing an improperly-large longitudinal space between the engine and the dash panel.

In an exhaust system, a first oxygen sensor (S1) is attached to an exhaust pipe (101) connected to a standard cylinder in which the amount of injected fuel is the closest to the average of the amounts of fuel injected in a plurality of cylinders. A controller calculates the air-fuel ratio of the standard cylinder based on the value detected by the first oxygen sensor (S1). Then, based on the difference between the calculated air-fuel ratio of the standard cylinder and a predetermined target air-fuel ratio, the amount of correction to the amount of fuel injected in the standard cylinder is determined such that the air-fuel ratio of the standard cylinder is equal to the target air-fuel ratio. Furthermore, based on the amount of correction to the amount of fuel injected in the standard cylinder, the amounts of correction of the other cylinders are determined.

An exhaust manifold has a structure such that an end portion of a collecting section where pipes connected to respective cylinders of an engine are collected is connected to an exhaust pipe via a joint tube member. The joint tube member is constituted by an upper joint portion and a lower joint portion, and cut-out grooves are formed on both joining portions of the upper joint portion or the lower joint portion. With the cut-out grooves, a partition plate is engaged to be positioned, and in this state, the partition plate is fixed to the upper joint portion or the lower joint portion.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compactly and properly arrange a turbo supercharger and an EGR cooler or the like in a limited space between an engine and a dash panel.SOLUTION: An exhaust purification unit 12 is provided at a side closer to an outer side than to a turbo supercharger 7 in a vehicle width direction. An exhaust returning system 62 is provided with an EGR cooler 71 provided between a rear wall surface of an engine 1 and the exhaust purification unit 12; an EGR control valve unit 72 adjusting a return flow rate of the exhaust gas; a first EGR tube 73 supplying the exhaust gas to the EGR cooler 71; a second EGR tube 74 supplying the exhaust gas to the EGR control valve unit 72; and a third EGR tube 75 guiding the exhaust gas to an intake side. The second EGR tube 75 is installed so as to extend to the vehicle rear side through a gap between the turbo supercharger 7 and the exhaust purification unit 12. The EGR control valve unit 72 is provided in an area of a tunnel part 26 of the dash panel.

An exhaust system protection device is described that can be installed on the exhaust pipe of a vehicle. The device is designed to protect valuable components of the exhaust system from unauthorized removal. The device has a first locking collar that is configured to be removably positioned around the exhaust system of the vehicle. The first locking collar is positioned adjacent to the first end of the component that is to be protected. A second locking collar is removably positioned around the exhaust system adjacent the second end of the component that is to be protected. An elongated member extends from the first locking collar to the second locking collar. The elongated member is positioned around the component in a manner whereby the component cannot be removed from the exhaust system between the elongated member. A security member can extend from the first locking collar around a chassis or frame member of a vehicle and be secured to the second locking collar to prevent the protection device and component from being separated from the vehicle. The locking collars and security member are all constructed from materials that are difficult to cut or alter and thereby makes it difficult for a thief to remove the protection device from the exhaust system of the vehicle.

An exhaust arrangement for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine (1) of a vehicle which has a row of cylinders (C1-C4). The arrangement includes an exhaust manifold (2) including a branch portion (8) having a plurality of branch pipes (7A-7D) corresponding to the cylinders, a catalyst (4) disposed downstream of the exhaust manifold (2), and an exhaust pipe (3) connecting the exhaust manifold (2) to the catalyst (4). The exhaust pipe (3) defines an exhaust path having a bend (12). The bend (12) includes a plane dividing an interior of the bend (12) into equal halves. A partition (14) divides the exhaust path into first and second exhaust passages (15,16) coextending in a longitudinal direction of the exhaust pipe (3). The partition (14) extends in the bend (12) in alignment with the plane. An oxygen sensor (23) is disposed at the bend (12) of the exhaust pipe (3) in alignment with the partition and projects into both of the first and second exhaust passages (15,16) through a periphery of the partition (14).
