A head mounted display for presentation of video information includes a virtual raster display unit, an attachment mechanism for attaching the display unit to the head of the user, a support member connected to the attachment mechanism for supporting the display unit within the user's field of vision, and a remote signal source for providing power, timing, control signals and display information to the display system. The head attachment mechanism can be symmetrically designed to allow positioning of the display unit in front of either of the viewer's eyes, or the attachment mechanism may be eliminated completely and the support member and display unit attached directly to a conventional helmet or the user's eyeglasses.

Head mounted display for miniature video display system

A variable focus lens comprising a first fluid (A) and a second, non-miscible, fluid (B) in contact over a meniscus. A first electrode (2) separated from the fluid bodies by a fluid contact layer (10), and a second electrode (12) in contact with the first fluid to cause an electrowetting effect whereby the shape of the meniscus is altered. The fluid contact layer has a substantially cylindrical inner wall.

Variable focus lens

In a scanning optical system including a polygon mirror for dynamically deflecting N laser beams corresponding to N color components and an imaging optical system for converging the laser beams into spot beams on N photosensitive drums respectively, the imaging optical system includes: a front lens group for converging the laser beams principally in a main scanning direction while deflecting the beams to deviate from its optical surface reference axis; and N rear lens groups for converging the laser beams principally in an auxiliary scanning direction respectively. The rear surface of the front lens group and front surfaces of the rear lens groups are formed as two-dimensional polynomial aspherical surfaces. Concretely, the rear surface is formed as a step-like optical surface having N discrete areas of different heights. By the system, the laser beams are separated sufficiently to match the intervals between the photosensitive drums without the need of long optical paths, without deteriorating the scanning performance, and without the need of using mirrors which cause color misregistration and increase costs.

Scanning optical system

An LED area illumination source/display (10) such as an electronic billboard is made up of a number of individual pixels with each pixel including a number of LEDs, e.g., a red (18), blue (19) and green LED (20), with each LED representing a primary color being arranged to be energized separately. At least one light sensor (22) is incorporated into the display for providing a measure of the light emitted from each LED representing a primary color in each pixel. The source/display (10) is susceptible of being self-calibrated by initially energizing the LEDs (18, 19, 20) at less than a maximum level and increasing the energization level as necessary during use to restore the original light output of degraded LEDs.

Led illumination source/display with individual led brightness monitoring capability and calibration method

A common photodetecting unit detects a plurality of beams scanned by a plurality of polyhedral reflection mirrors provided in a multiple stages with a common rotation axis, and generates a synchronization detection signal based on detected beams. The reflection mirrors make a predetermined angle θ1 in a direction of rotation of the reflection mirrors. When time between two consecutive synchronization detection signals on a time line generated by the common photodetecting unit is ti, where i is a positive integer equal to or smaller than number of split beams, at least one of ti is different from others.

Optical scanning device and image forming apparatus

A two-dimensional scanning optical system comprising a deflector capable of two-dimensional deflection of a light beam in two mutually orthogonal directions, an imaging lens system provided with a predetermined distortion characteristic and capable of focusing the light beam deflected by said deflector onto a plane to be scanned, and a light source for introducing said light beam into said deflector in a direction parallel to the optical axis of said imaging lens system, thereby achieving a scanning on said plane with substantially linear scan lines.

Two-dimensional scanning device having compensation for scanned image strain

PURPOSE: To secure the sufficiently large length of a track and to attain the effective use of the recording area on an optical card, by providing a card mounting stage holding an only end part of the card which is parallel to the track with use of a mounting stage. CONSTITUTION: A card mounting stage 15 contains grooves 51 and 52, and both ends of an optical card 11 which are parallel to its information track 12 are put into those grooves 51 and 52. The stage 15 also has recesses 53 and 53' where card holding members 54 and 54' are stored with free up-down movements. Both members 54 and 54' are depressed by a degree equal to the thickness of the card 11 to press the card from its rear side and then presses the upper surface side of the card 11 to the lower side surfaces of the parts 56 and 57 of the stage 15. Therefore the end part of the card 11 which is orthogonal to the track 12 is not held. At the same time, a plate spring 58 presses the card 11 the surface of a form when the card is inserted to fix the card set position. A compact scanning optical system includes a scanning light beam generator, a detector for deflecting the light beam from the generator in a predetermined direction, a first optical system for forming the light beam from the generator linearly near the deflecting and reflecting surface of the deflector, and a single optical element disposed and having a power between the deflector and a surface to be scanned. The single optical element has a power both in the deflection plane of the light beam deflected by the deflector and a plane orthogonal to the deflection plane and has different powers in the orthogonal planes.

Scanning optical system having a tilting correcting function

A multibeam scanning apparatus capable of changing magnification is is provided with a light source part, an afocal zoom lens, a first anamorphic optical system and a second anamorphic optical system. The light source part generates a plural number of collimated light beams and the afocal zoom lens changes the angular magnification of the collimated light beams. The first anamorphic optical system forms linear images from the beams transmitted through the afocal zoom lens. The linear images are parallel with the plane defined by the light beams as deflected by a deflector. The second anamorphic optical system is disposed between the deflector and a surface to be scanned to form good scanning spots on the scanned surface from the linear images on the reflecting surface of the deflector.
