Journal ArticleDOI
Disruption of two defensive signaling pathways by a viral RNA silencing suppressor.
Mathew G. Lewsey,Alex M. Murphy,Dan MacLean,Neil Dalchau,Jack H. Westwood,Keith Macaulay,Mark H. Bennett,Michael Moulin,David E. Hanke,Glen Powell,Alison G. Smith,John P. Carr +11 more
TL;DR: Surprisingly, 2b inhibited expression of few SA-regulated genes and, in some instances, enhanced the effect of SA on certain genes, raising the possibility that disruption of JA-mediated gene expression by the 2b protein may influence CMV transmission by aphids.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase 1 and isochorismate synthase gene expression in Arabidopsis.
Lydia J. R. Hunter,Jack H. Westwood,Geraldine Ann Heath,Keith Macaulay,Alison G. Smith,Stuart A. MacFarlane,Peter Palukaitis,Peter Palukaitis,John P. Carr +8 more
TL;DR: RDR1 is regulated by a much broader range of phytohormones than previously thought, indicating that it plays roles beyond those already suggested in virus resistance and plant-insect interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The biochemical properties of the two Arabidopsis thaliana isochorismate synthases.
Keith Macaulay,Geraldine Ann Heath,Alessio Ciulli,Alexandra Murphy,Chris Abell,John P. Carr,Alison G. Smith +6 more
TL;DR: Although Arabidopsis has two functional ICS enzymes, it must possess one or more IPL enzymes to complete biosynthesis of SA starting from chorismate, which would enable these proteins to act as bifunctional SA synthases.
