A fluid power conversion apparatus serving fluid pumping and/or power-generation functions, comprising: an impeller having an impeller hub and a periphery; a housing around the impeller; a diffusor having (a) an outer wall attached to the housing, (b) a diffusor hub rotatably supporting the impeller, and (c) at least one stator vane securing the diffusor hub to the outer wall; and a rotating electrical machine having (a) an armature attached to the housing and (b) a rotor attached to the impeller periphery and positioned to form a rotor-armature gap, whereby the impeller and the rotor form an integrated unit with fluid flow through the rotor.

Integrated fluid power conversion system

A BLDC motor assembly and method for manufacturing same is disclosed. The motor has a housing, a shaft supported for rotation within the housing, a stator disposed within the housing for generating an electro-magnetic field, a rotor operatively coupled to the shaft and disposed for powered rotation within the stator in response to the electro-magnetic field, at least one temperature sensitive electronic device (TSED) disposed within the housing and electrically connected to the stator for controlling or measuring an aspect of the electro¬ magnetic field, and a fuel resistant and electrically insulated polymeric material encapsulating the TSED so that the TSED is protected from adverse temperature and chemical agents without the need for a separate internal container or a pre-potting operating. The TSED, which may be carried on a printed circuit board within the housing, is thus overmolded with polymeric material so that the polymeric material fills, or substantially fills, a space within the housing. Not only is the cost and weight associated with a prior art dedicated container for the electronics eliminated, but this invention allows greater design freedom in the location or placement of the various electrical devices within the housing for better motor efficiency and/or protection.

Apparatus is provided for use in a submersible pump, comprising; a stator having electrical windings and configured with a cavity to receive a rotor of a motor and to provide an electromotive force to drive the rotor arranged inside the cavity; a switch having circuitry configured to response to a level of fluid and control the operation of the stator; and electrical leads and connections configured to electrically couple the stator and the switch, and to provide power to operate the stator and the switch to drive the stator and to turn the electromotive force on and off to control the pumping of the fluid by submersible pump; the stator, the switch and electrical leads and connections being at least partly encapsulated in a material so as to form an encapsulated stator assembly with a watertight seal to prevent fluid from contacting the electrical windings, the circuitry of the switch and the electrical leads and connections.

A BLDC electric motor assembly ( 24 ) includes a rotor ( 42 ) having a plurality of magnet segments ( 50 ) securely retained thereabout by an annular ring ( 68 ) which is shrunk in situ in an electromagnetic forming operation. The magnet segments ( 50 ) are formed with tongues ( 62, 64 ) on their upper and lower ends ( 56, 58 ). One tongue ( 64 ) seats in a retaining pocket ( 48 ) molded on the rotor shaft ( 40 ), whereas the other tongue ( 62 ) provides a ledge into which the ring ( 68 ) seats. After the magnet forming operation, wherein the ring ( 68 ) is shrunk, the outer surface of the ring ( 68 ) is flush with the outer surfaces ( 54 ) of the magnet segments ( 50 ).

Bldc motor assembly

A high speed centrifugal compressor for compressing fluids includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) having a hollow shaft, the being supported on its ends by ball bearing comprising supports. A permanent magnet core is embedded inside the shaft. A stator with a winding is located radially outward of the shaft. The PMSM includes a rotor including at least one impeller secured to the shaft or integrated with the shaft as a single piece. The rotor is a high rigidity rotor providing a bending mode speed of at least 100,000 RPM which advantageously permits implementation of relatively low-cost ball bearing comprising supports.

Miniature high speed compressor having embedded permanent magnet motor

A fluid pump (10) includes a pump housing (12) having a housing cavity with an inlet and an outlet. A diffuser (20) is located within the housing cavity, and includes a portion that is attached to the housing. The diffuser has a diffuser cavity, in which a stator assembly (36) and canister (40) are located. The canister provides a seal where it contacts the diffuser; this isolates the stator assembly from the fluid. The stator assembly provides a magnetic field which drives a rotor assembly. The rotor assembly rotates an impeller, which pumps the fluid from the inlet to the outlet.

Electronic fluid pump

An electric air charger (12) for use with an internal combustion engine (10) is disclosed. The air charger (12) includes an impeller (28) for supplying air to the engine. A housing (26) surrounds the impeller (28) and has an air inlet (40) and an air outlet adapted (54) to couple the air supplied by the impeller (28) to the engine (10). The air inlet (40) and the air outlet (54) are substantially aligned. The air charger (12) further includes an electric motor (30) for controllably rotating the impeller (28).

A fluid pump includes a pump housing having a housing cavity with an inlet and an outlet. A diffuser is located within the housing cavity, and includes a portion that is attached to the housing. The diffuser has a diffuser cavity, in which a stator assembly and canister are located. The canister provides a seal where it contacts the diffuser; this isolates the stator assembly from the fluid. The stator assembly provides a magnetic field which drives a rotor assembly. The rotor assembly rotates an impeller, which pumps the fluid from the inlet to the outlet.
