This invention discloses a power control system comprising a prime mover and a generator driven by the prime mover. A control device is coupled with the generator to ascertain a change in speed of the generator and vary an output power of the generator according to the change. The control device applies a signal to reduce the generator output power and another signal to restore the generator output power. The power control system may include a transmission, a speed converter, and/or an accessory.

Power control system and method

A broadband communications network having an uninterruptible power supply. The power supply has one input connection to AC line voltage and another input connected to a gas powered electrical generator. The power supply contains an uninterruptible power supply module having a controlled ferroresonant transformer and a battery. The power supply also contains a bypass module having a controlled ferroresonant transformer. Switches are provided to allow either of the inputs to be connected to either the UPS module or the bypass module for the generation of power signals for supplying power to the broadband communications network.

Apparatus and methods for generating uninterruptible AC power signals

In power systems for providing an uninterruptible power supply to a load (24), a problem may arise in the switching of power from a main line (12) to a standby generator (20). A power system that overcomes the above problem further includes a first motor (14), a first generator (16), a flywheel (62) and a transfer controller (92). When the main line (12) fails to provide the necessary power, the energy developed by flywheel (62) is used to supply power to a load (24) until a standby generator (20) is available to supply power. The power system can be used with a three phase 240 voltage load (24).

Uninterruptible power system.

A cable TV distribution system in which an AC power signal is generated according to the following steps: (a) generating an AC power signal having at least a positive half-cycle, where the positive half-cycle comprises a rising portion, a falling portion, and a central portion; and (b) limiting the slew rate of the AC power signal within the rising portion to a range of 30 V/ms and 50 V/ms inclusive. Preferably, the slew rate of the AC power signal within the falling portion is limited to the range of -30 V/ms and -50 V/ms inclusive. The AC power signal is preferably generated by a power supply comprising: (a) a ferroresonant transformer; (b) a ferro-capacitor connected across the first and second terminals of the output windings of the ferroresonant transformer; (c) an inductor connected across the first and second terminals in parallel with the ferro-capacitor; (d) a switch for preventing current flow through the inductor in response to a switch control signal; and (e) a control circuit for generating the switch control signal to obtain the desired AC power signal.

Apparatus and methods for generating an AC power signal for cable TV distribution systems

A method of controlling a permanent magnet turbogenerator/motor includes providing a protected load connected in parallel with the turbogenerator/motor through a pulse width modulated inverter configured in a first operating mode to supply controlled current from the turbogenerator/motor to a utility electrical power source, and selectively connected to the utility electrical power source through an isolation device, monitoring the utility electrical power source, and automatically disconnecting the protected load from the utility electrical power source while reconfiguring the pulse width modulated inverter in a second operating mode to supply controlled voltage to the protected load when a fault is detected in the utility electrical power source. The present invention provides an external or integrated dual mode controller which can be used to provide automatic transitions of a turbogenerator/motor between grid-connected modes where a PWM inverter provides a controlled AC current source to stand-alone modes where the PWM inverter provides a controlled AC voltage source to a protected load. Three phase rotation sequence can be set to positive or negative rotation, or be set to the last measured rotation for the utility grid to enable automatic transitions from stand-alone to grid-connect modes. In addition, the present invention provides for detecting a reference phase angle of the three-phase power provided by a utility grid such that gradual synchronization/resynchronization of a protected parallel connected load can be performed by appropriately controlling the PWM inverter prior to re-connection to the utility grid.
