An ink-jet recording medium having a support and, provided thereon, at least one ink receiving layer containing polymeric organic particles, characterized in that said polymeric organic particles have a glass transition temperature of 40 °C or higher, and are amphoteric polymeric organic particles having both functional groups of cationic groups and anionic groups. The ink-jet recording medium is excellent in ink absorbing property, coloring concentration, gloss, and the resistance to water, light and yellowing, in particular, excellent in ink absorbing property, coloring concentration, gloss, and the resistance to light and yellowing.

Non-formaldehyde emitting binders for nonwoven cellulosic materials comprise a solution copolymer of an olefinically unsaturated organic compound having at least one carboxylate group, which is reacted with a primary or secondary amide of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The product of said reaction is admixed with a non-formaldehyde containing latex carrier which has been formulated with a non-formaldehyde forming reactive monomer to produce binder compositions which reach substantially fully cured wet strength in 8 seconds or less.

Wet adhesion, ICI viscosity, and scrub resistance of a paint are improved by incorporating into the paint a binder that comprises a film former and polymeric composition. The polymeric composition comprises either (a) about 15 to about 35 weight percent of substantially non-self-polymerizable monomer, about 30 to about 70 weight percent of a copolymerizable monomer whose homopolymer is water-soluble, and about 10 to about 35 weight percent of a wet adhesion promoting monomer, or (b) about 35 to about 65 weight percent of the substantially non-self-polymerizable monomer and about 35 to about 65 weight percent of the wet adhesion promoting monomer. The polymeric composition and film former are substantially inseparable by chromatographic means.

PURPOSE:To remove free formaldehyde easily from a urea resin particle dispersion, by adding sulfurous acid (salt) to the dispersion at a specified molar ratio to the free formaldehyde contained therein, reacting them and adjusting the final pH to around a neutral value. CONSTITUTION:Formaldehyde is condensed with urea to form a urea resin particle dispersion containing free formaldehyde. To this dispersion, sulfurous acid (salt) (e.g., sodium sulfite or acid sodium sulfite) in an amount of 0.5-1.5mol per mol of the free aldehyde is added, and the reaction between them is effected. The final pH of this dispersion is adjusted to 5-9 in order to prevent the bisulfite compound as the reaction product from forming free formaldehyde by decomposition during storage. In this way, a urea resin particle dispersion containing no free formaldehyde can be obtained.
