Our study investigates the motion, temperature and volume fraction of a nanofluid that flows at a vertical channel exposed to natural and forced (mixed) convection heat transfer. The distribution function for temperature and volume fraction on the channel's wall is exponential. Nanofluid governing equations have been solved using the radial basis function method. Various parameters, including Grashof number, Brownian motion, thermophoresis parameter, plus distinct states for temperature and volume fraction functions for the channel's wall, have been probed. The results show that increasing the Grashof number by 50% will increase the fluid velocity and temperature by about 41% and 5.7% and decrease the volume fraction by 22%. In addition, it has been proved that doubling the Brownian motion parameter improves the fluid temperature and velocity by 67% and 66% and lowers the volume fraction by 53%. Moreover, increasing the thermophoresis parameter has a similar effect to the Brownian motion parameter. Finally, it has been seen that velocity, temperature and volume fraction functions strongly depend on temperature and volume fraction distribution functions on the channel's wall.

Radiation and Convection Heat Transfer Optimization with MHD Analysis of a Hybrid Nanofluid within a Wavy Porous Enclosure

Abstract Increasing thermal performance and preventing heat loss are very important in energy conversion systems, especially for new and complex products that exacerbate this need. Therefore, to solve this challenge, a trapezoidal cavity with a wavy top wall containing water/ethylene glycol GO–Al 2 O 3 nanofluid is simulated using Galerkin finite element method. The effects of physical parameters affecting thermal performance and fluid flow, including porosity (ℇ), thermal radiation (Rd), magnetic field angle (α), Rayleigh number (Ra) and Hartmann number (Ha), are investigated in the determined ratios. The results of applied boundary conditions showed that the optimal values for Ra, Ha, ℇ, Rd and α are 1214.46, 2.86, 0.63, 0.24 and 59.35, respectively. Considering that changes in radiation have little effect on streamlines and isothermal lines. Optimization by RSM and Taguchi integration resulted in optimal Nu detection. It provided a correlation for the average Nu based on the investigated determinants due to the conflicting influence of the study factors, which finally calculated the highest average Nusselt number of 3.07. Therefore, the ideal design, which is the primary goal of this research, increases the thermal performance.

Optimization of wavy trapezoidal porous cavity containing mixture hybrid nanofluid (water/ethylene glycol Go–Al2O3) by response surface method

Optimization approach for MoS2-water ethylene glycol mixture nanofluid flow in a wavy enclosure

In this article, a novel design for the vortex chamber with the axial grooves used for cooling the turbine blades leading edge is presented. The vortex chamber has nine tangential inlets that make a vortex in the chamber and an axial groove located along with the chamber. In addition to enhance the flow turbulence, these grooves cause an increasing heat transfer by cutting the thermal boundary layer and reformation. For this purpose, a 3D model based on Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equation was simulated in Ansys Fluent software. After comparing different turbulent models and experimental data, results showed Reynolds stress model (RSM) mode presents the best accuracy. Grooves with different sizes, positions, and numbers are used to investigate the vortex structure and the heat transfer mechanism. This study revealed that a chamber with grooves has a higher heat transfer in comparison with chambers without grooves. The best performance is achieved in a chamber with three grooves, where the average Nusselt number is increased by more than 4%. In this method, pressure difference between the inlet and outlet in the chamber with and without grooves are not very significant, and the highest friction factor happened in the case with three grooves.
