A multiple-stage catalytic conversion system in which a hydrocarbonaceous charge stock and hydrogen flow serially through a plurality of catalytic reaction zones in each of which the catalyst particles are movable via gravity flow. Dissimilar catalyst particles are utilized in the reactor systems which share a common regenerating tower through which the catalyst particles are downwardly movable via gravity flow and in which the catalyst particles are regenerated in segregated fashion. Dissimilarity of the catalyst particles stems from a difference in activity, stability and selectivity characteristics. In turn, this difference may be attributed either to physical, or chemical distinctions between the two composites, or both.

A hydrocarbon desulfurization system employing regenerable solid sorbent particulates in a fluidized bed desulfurization reactor (12) is disclosed. The sulfur laded sorbent particulates are continuously withdrawn from the reactor (12) and transferred to a regenerator (14) . A novel solids transport mechanism provides for the safe and effective transfer of the sulfur-loaded sorbent particulates from the high pressure hydrocarbon environment of the reactor (12) to the low pressure oxygen environment of the regenerator (14).via lockhopper (28).

Desulfurization system with novel sorbent transfer mechanism

A system is disclosed for circulating an ancillary hydrogen-rich gas stream through a part of a moving bed hydrocarbon conversion process. The gas stream may be employed in lockhopper systems, catalyst transfer equipment and catalyst treating zones as for reducing the catalyst. The used ancillary gas is discharged into a partitioned vapor-liquid separation vessel. The partially condensed reaction zone effluent stream is discharged into a different chamber of the same vessel. The net off gas stream is withdrawn from the chamber receiving the used ancillary gas to prevent contamination of a recycle gas stream, which is drawn off the other chamber.

A controlled method of transporting catalyst between two zones while inhibiting communication between the atmospheres of the zones is disclosed. Communication between the zones is inhibited by controlling pressure differences. The two zones are separated by a means to lift catalyst, which results in a savings in construction costs. This invention is adaptable to a multitude of processes for the catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons in which deactivated catalyst particles are regenerated.

Controlled method of transporting catalyst between zones

Applicable to a catalytic reaction system wherein a hydrocarbonaceous stream is reacted with hydrogen in contact with catalyst particles movable through the reaction system via gravity-flow, the present inventive concept affords the controlled transport of catalyst particles from a reaction system to a catalyst regeneration facility integrated therewith. The system is especially adaptable to be utilized on cooperation with a multiple-stage reaction system wherein catalyst particles flow in series, from one reactor to another, and deactivated catalyst particles from the last reactor are to be transported to the regeneration facility.
