The T-matrix method is among the most versatile, efficient, and widely used theoretical techniques for the numerically exact computation of electromagnetic scattering by homogeneous and composite particles, clusters of particles, discrete random media, and particles in the vicinity of an interface separating two half-spaces with different refractive indices. This paper presents an update to the comprehensive database of T-matrix publications compiled by us previously and includes the publications that appeared since 2007. It also lists several earlier publications not included in the original database.

Comprehensive T-matrix reference database: A 2012-2013 update

A fast superposition T-matrix solution is formulated for electromagnetic scattering by a collection of arbitrarily-shaped inhomogeneous particles. The T-matrices for individual constituents are computed by expanding the Green's dyadic in the spherical vector wave functions and formulating a volume integral equation, where the equivalent electric current is the unknown and the spherical vector wave functions are treated as excitations. Furthermore, the volume integral equation and the superposition T-matrix are accelerated by the precorrected-FFT algorithm and the fast multipole algorithm, respectively. The approach allows for an efficient scattering analysis of the clusters and aggregates consisting of a large number of arbitrarily-shaped inhomogeneous particles.

Fast superposition T-matrix solution for clusters with arbitrarily-shaped constituent particles☆

In this paper, a high-temperature superconducting composite right/left-handed (HTS CRLH) resonator is proposed, which is constructed by microstrip spiral coupled lines and step-like microstrip lines. The dispersion characteristics of the CRLH resonator is obtained and analyzed by an equivalent circuit model and a transmission matrix method. To verify this design methodology, the HTS CRLH resonator is designed and fabricated with a compact size of 11.25 mm × 16 mm on YBa

Cu

 films. The power handling capability of the filter is studied. Finally, the measured and simulated results are in good agreement with each other.

We present an explicit and numerically exact method for determining the T matrix of an arbitrarily shaped PEC object directly from a MoM impedance matrix that is generated with the Rao-Wilton-Glisson basis function for use in multiple-scattering calculations.

A compact uniplanar design of 2-D antenna arrays is presented for digital beamforming (DBF) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimations. The array is based on switchable microstrip slot antennas that are series fed in one dimension and parallel fed in the other dimension. In conjunction with spatial multiplexing of local elements (SMILE) techniques, the array is able to use both the series- and parallel-fed antennas for 2-D beamforming and DOA estimations. The combination of series and parallel feeding provides a simple way of constructing 2-D DBF arrays with a simple and uniplanar feed network. Other advantages are its low cost and compatibility with a microwave integrated circuit process for the receiver system. A 4 times 4 receiving array test bed at a 5.5-GHz operating frequency is fabricated, and DBF and DOA tests on this test bed are successfully demonstrated.

Two-Dimensional Planar Array for Digital Beamforming and Direction-of-Arrival Estimations

We present a memory-reduction technique for the fast Fourier transformation (FFT) T-matrix method. The technique exploits the configuration- and Fourier-space symmetry relations of the transverse spherical multipole translation coefficients whose storage drives the memory requirement. The technique is capable of reducing the memory requirement by a factor of 6/spl sim/16 depending on the number of modes used and the spatial distribution of scatterers and is simple to implement in an existing FFT T-matrix code. We establish its accuracy and effectiveness by applying the technique to compute the RCS of aggregates of dielectric spheres.
