A personal care composition comprising: a) a synthetic random copolymer having a net positive charge comprising; i.) a nonionic monomer unit of the following formula (I): where R is H or C1-4 alkyl; and R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, C1-4 alkyl, CH2OCH3, CH2OCH2CH(CH3)2, and phenyl, or together are C3-6cycloalkyl; and ii.) a cationic monomer unit with 2 or more positive charges of the following formula (II): where k = 1, each of v, v', and v' is independently an integer of from 1 to 6, w is zero or an integer of from 1 to 10, and X- is an anion, and; b) a detersive surfactant; and c) an aqueous carrier.

Personal care compositions containing cationic synthetic copolymer and a detersive surfactant

Personal care compositions comprise (a) from about 0.01 wt.% to about 10 wt.% of a water-soluble cationically modified starch polymer, wherein said water-soluble cationically modified starch polymer has a molecular weight from about 250,000 to about 15,000,000 and a charge density from about 0.2 meq/g to about 5 meq/g; (b) from about 5 wt.% to about 50 wt.% of an anionic surfactant system, said anionic surfactant system comprising at least one anionic surfactant and having an ethoxylate level and an anion level, (i) wherein said ethoxylate level is from about 1 to about 6, and (ii) wherein said anion level is from about 1 to about 6; and (c) a cosmetically acceptable medium. Personal care compositions as described above further comprise from about 0.01 wt.% to about 10 wt.% of one or more oily conditioning agents. Methods of treating hair or skin comprise applying the personal care compositions as described above to the hair or skin and rinsing the hair or skin.

Disclosed is a transparent concentrated hair conditioning composition comprising: (1) from about 0.01% to about 50% by weight of a conditioning agent selected from the group consisting of cationic surfactants, cationic polymers, silicone compounds, polyalkylene glycols, and mixtures thereof; and (2) an aqueous carrier; (3) wherein the hair conditioning composition is used for conditioning the hair comprising the steps of; (a) applying a shampoo composition comprising a detersive surfactant to the hair; (b) providing a treated water by dispersing the conditioning composition to water, wherein the treated water has a concentration by weight of from 0.001% to 2% of the conditioning agent; and (c) rinsing the hair with the treated water; and wherein steps (a) and (b) may be reversed; (4) wherein the conditioning composition has a turbidity of no more than about 200 NTU, and the treated water has a turbidity of no more than about 100 NTU.

A compatible cosmetic composition for treating keratin substances comprising a cationic guar gum which contains a cationic group selected from the group consisting of amino, ammonium imino, sulfonium or phosphonium groups and wherein the cationic content is represented by a DS of from about 0.25 to 1.0 and an effective surfactant amount of at least one non-ionic or anionic surfactant.
