There is disclosed an automatic electronic window shading (tinting) system for houses and transport vehicles such as automobiles, RV's, trains, boats and the like, to provide shading for people to protect them from exposure to harmful direct sunlight, by providing the windows of said houses and transport vehicles with display elements and light (photocell/photovoltaic) sensors. The system comprises liquid crystal, electrochromic, suspended particle device (SPD), or NanoChromics display (NCD) element attached to a part of a transparent body (such as the windows) and a liquid crystal, electrochromic, suspended particle device (SPD), or NanoChromics display (NCD) controlling semiconductor element controlling the operation of the display element.

Electronic Window Shading System for Houses, Transport Vehicles and the Like

An electrical control system is disclosed for controlling a plurality of variable transmittance windows. The electrical control system of the present invention comprises a master control circuit for supplying control signals representing transmittance levels for the variable transmission windows, and a plurality of window control circuits coupled to each of the master control circuits. Because the window control circuits can sense abnormal load conditions in the variable transmission windows, the system further includes an interface to a security system to inform of a potential intrusion. Each window control circuit controls the transmittance of at least one of the variable transmission windows in response to control signals received from the master control circuit.

Variable transmission window constructions

An electrical window control system and method thereof are provided, wherein the system includes a variable transmission window having first and second substantially transparent substrates that define an area, and a variable transmittance material that occupies at least a portion of the area. The system further includes a power source that supplies an electrical power, at least one light source that emits light towards the variable transmission window, and at least one sensor in optical communication with the light source, wherein the at least one sensor receives at least a portion of the light that propagates through at least one of the first and second substantially transparent substrates, and communicates a signal that corresponds to the received light. The system further includes a controller in communication with the at least one sensor, wherein the controller receives and compares the signal communicated from the at least one sensor to a reference value, and controls the electrical power supplied to the variable transmittance material, such that a transmittance of the variable transmission window is altered with respect to the light received by the at least one sensor.

Electrical window control system and method thereof

A vehicle window tinting system includes liquid crystal material contained within a liquid crystal cell embedded within the side windows of a vehicle. A liquid crystal cell is likewise embedded within the vehicle rear window and is scripted to form a readable message. The liquid crystal cells are each electrically connected to the vehicle battery via a designated switch. When a switch corresponding to a window is activated, an electrical current is delivered to the liquid crystal cells thereby decreasing the transmittance of the window. If the switch corresponding to the rear window is activated, the readable message appears thereon.

The various embodiments include variable optical transmission devices with uniform or patterned polarizers or wave retarders configured to provide continuous or nearly continuous variations in light transmission based on linear translation.
