Composite door assembly

A method of molding an outer body panel and attaching that outer panel to an inner supporting portion of a vehicle. The outer panel is made in a mold having a mold cavity and a plurality of passages extending outwardly from the cavity. During the molding process, ejector pins disposed within these passages are used to provide supplemental pressure within the mold cavity and prevent shrinkage. After the material within the mold has solidified, the mold is opened and the ejector pins are used to eject the outer panel from the mold. Locating members formed in the passages are used to locate and maintain the outer panel in a fixed relationship with respect to the inner supporting portion when they are assembled and bonded to one another.

A method of producing an elongated member having a main body portion and terminal portions extending form ends thereof includes bending an elongated strip between circumferential faces of first forming rolls and second forming rolls having parallel central rotational axes. The circumferential faces of the first forming rolls include annular main body portion bending sections that form the main body portion in the strip and adjacent transition portion bending sections that form adjacent transition portions in the strip, thereby forming an intermediate stage elongated member. The transition portions have a cross-section that changes continuously from the annular cross-section of the main body portion to a different cross-section of the terminal portions. The intermediate elongated member is further formed by annular main body portion and transition portion bending sections of the second forming rolls corresponding to the respective bending sections of the first forming rolls in circumferential length but having a different axial dimension such that the intermediate stage elongated member approaches a shape of the fully-formed elongated member.

The present invention provides a reactive countermeasure for use in an interior compartment of a vehicle which has a reactive surface rib cartridge. The reactive surface rib cartridge comprises a uniform reactive surface constructed as one piece of material and has a plurality of ribs attached to and extending perpendicularly from the uniform reactive surface. Section modulus of the door beam is progressively decreased from a center section toward opposite ends of the door beam and the contour of cross-section of the door beam is of a continuously formed round wave shape, whereby the door beam absorbs an impact of a collision by virtue of imparting the force of the impact to both bending and tensile forces so that the bending moment acting on the center of the door beam decreases.

Construction of a door beam of a motor vehicle

PURPOSE:To provide an automobile door beam which is compact and has low weight and enough deformation resistance, by continuously reducing the section modulus of the beam from the center toward both the ends and shaping the cross section of the beam as smooth waves. CONSTITUTION:Mounting portions 31 provided on both the ends of a door beam 30 are welded on the side panels of a door 10 so that the door beam 30 is secured in internal space defined by the panel 21 and outer panel 11 of the door 10. The longitudinal section of the door beam 30 is shaped as an arc which continuous except for the mounting portions 31 at both the ends. The section modulus of the beam 30 is thus continuously increased from the center toward both the ends. The cross section of the beam 30 is shaped as smooth waves 32 which are continuous to each other in the vertical direction. One side of a block reinforcing member 40 is secured on one end of the beam 30. The other side of the member 40 is secured on a door lock 18 by clamping them together.
