Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of the prothoracic gland by juvenile hormone and prothoracicotropic hormone in Mamestra brassicae
TL;DR: Results suggest that larval prothoracic glands maintained under juvenile hormone (JH) or PTTH-free conditions for long periods of time may become insensitive to reactivation by both hormones.
Journal ArticleDOI
Possible roles of juvenile hormone in the prepupal stage of Mamestra brassicae
TL;DR: Investigation of physiological roles of juvenile hormone in the larval-pupal development of Mamestra brassicae suggested that JH has possible dual roles at the prepupal stage: one is the activation of the prothoracic glands by JH, the other is suppression of precocious adult development of the eye byJH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Larval-pupal transformation of the prothoracic glands of Mamestra brassicae
Kiyoshi Hiruma,Noriaki Agui +1 more
TL;DR: Allatectomy caused changes leading to metamorphosis including a transformation of the prothoracic glands from ‘larval’ to ‘pupal’ type, which were able to respond not only to PTTH but also to juvenile hormone just as in last-instar larvae.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors affecting change in sensitivity of prophoracic glands to juvenile hormone in Mamestra brassicae
TL;DR: It is suggested that prothoracic glands from either day-1, day-2 or day-3 larvae can slowly acquire a sensitivity to juvenile hormone activation by prolonged incubation in the absence of factors from the head.
