Amniotic membrane grafts for nontraumatic corneal perforations, descemetoceles, and deep ulcers
Abraham Solomon,Daniel Meller,Pinnita Prabhasawat,Thomas John,E.M. Espana,Klaus-Peter Steuhl,Scheffer C.G. Tseng,Scheffer C.G. Tseng +7 more
TL;DR: AMT is an effective method for managing nontraumatic corneal perforations and descemetoceles and can serve as either a permanent therapy or as a temporizing measure until the inflammation has subsided and a definitive reconstructive procedure can be performed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Amniotic membrane transplantation in the human eye.
TL;DR: AMT is an established technique in the treatment of various diseases of the external eye and has brought about major advances in the reconstructive surgery of the ocular surface in the last few years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Conjunctival Melanomas Harbor BRAF and NRAS Mutations and Copy Number Changes Similar to Cutaneous and Mucosal Melanomas
Klaus G. Griewank,Henrike Westekemper,Rajmohan Murali,Monika Mach,Bastian Schilling,Thomas Wiesner,Tobias Schimming,Elisabeth Livingstone,Antje Sucker,Florian Grabellus,Claudia H D Metz,Daniela Süsskind,Uwe Hillen,Michael R. Speicher,Scott E. Woodman,Klaus-Peter Steuhl,Dirk Schadendorf +16 more
TL;DR: The presence of NRAS or BRAF mutations in a mutually exclusive pattern in roughly half (47%) of conjunctival melanomas and the pattern of CNAs argue for conjunctive melanoma being closely related to cutaneous and mucosal melanoma but entirely distinct from uveal melanoma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dry Eye Syndrome in Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy: Lacrimal Expression of TSH Receptor Suggests Involvement of TSHR-specific Autoantibodies
Anja Eckstein,Andreas Finkenrath,Arnd Heiligenhaus,Katrin Renzing‐Köhler,Joachim Esser,Carsten Krüger,B. Quadbeck,Klaus-Peter Steuhl,Robert K. Gieseler +8 more
TL;DR: As ocular surface damage in TAO significantly correlates with reduced tear production, LG impairment appears to be a major cause of ocularsurface drying, and autoantibodies may bind to lacrimal TSHR and, perhaps via aberrant signal transduction, contribute to LG impairment and, hence, dry eye syndrome.
Journal Article
Improvement of HSV-1 necrotizing keratitis with amniotic membrane transplantation.
TL;DR: AMT promotes rapid epithelialization and reduces stromal inflammation and ulceration in HSV-1 keratitis and is a useful model for investigating the effect and the action mechanism of human amniotic membrane.
