The aim of the radar systems is to collect information about their surroundings. In many scenarios besides static targets there are numerous moving objects with very different characteristics, such as extent, movement behavior or micro-Doppler spread. It would be most desirable to have algorithms that extract all information on static and moving object automatically, without a system operator. In this paper, we present measurements conducted with a commercially available high-resolution multi-channel linear frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar and algorithms that do not only produce radar images but a description of the scenario on a higher level. After conventional spectrum estimation and thresholding, we present a clustering stage that combines individual detections and generates representations of each target individually. This stage is followed by a Kalman filter based multi-target tracking block. The tracker allows us to follow each target and collect its properties over time. With this method of jointly estimating tracks and characteristics of each individual target in a scenario, inputs for classifiers can be generated. Which, in turn, will be able to generate information that could be used for driver assistance or alarm trigger systems.

Radar Signal Processing for Jointly Estimating Tracks and Micro-Doppler Signatures

The statistical simulation systems which are created for the efficient solving of target detection tasks need to have special signal simulation complex. The simulation methods that can be used as the base of such complex for the pulse radar signals and clutters simulation are considered. The system that uses such algorithms is realized and demonstrates the efficiency of described methods.

Signal modeling for the efficient target detection tasks

This paper deals with the algorithm for estimating the turbulence intensity in rain, which is developed on the basis of the model of Doppler-polarimetric spectra of radar signals, reflected from turbulent zones in precipitation. The relationship between the Doppler spectrum width of rain and the eddy dissipation rate is established at two orthogonal polarizations. The approximation of this relationship by Weibull model provides mathematical convenience for further analysis and synthesis. An algorithm for the estimation of turbulence intensity is developed on the basis of modeled and measured Doppler-polarimetric data. This algorithm is researched by statistical simulation. It is shown that the Doppler-polarimetric approach provides an accuracy increase in comparison with the Doppler method without polarization information.

Radar estimation of turbulence eddy dissipation rate in rain

In this paper we consider the resource management task in multi-position radar systems. On the basis of hierarchical control system we consider the control level at which reallocation of an active radars is performed, depending on the operational situation in area of responsibility the system, and propose a suboptimal solution of the optimization task for minimizing the use of radar resource.

Moving objects recognition by micro-Doppler spectrum

The improved approaches for a single source direction-of-arrival estimation in a far-field and near-field cases are proposed. In the far-field case the multichannel maximum likelihood frequency estimation along the uniform linear array is used for direct calculation of the single real spatial frequency. In the near-field case the same method is applied for short sub-arrays for retrieving a set of local spatial frequencies that allows calculation of the source position. The precision of proposed methods is analyzed via computer simulations
