This invention is directed to a process for preparing a coating, an unsupported film or a sheet of a polymer of at least one cycloolefin monomer containing a norbornene group in crosslinked or uncrosslinked state wherein in the crosslinked state, the polymer contains an effective amount of a crosslinker selected from photoinitiators polyfunctional monomers, organic peroxides, azo compounds, and mixtures thereof. In crosslinked state, the polymer is insoluble and preferably non-tacky when immersed for two minutes in 1,1,1-trichloroethane and is dimensionally stable when subjected to temperatures above its softening point. Such products, in crosslinked or uncrosslinked state, are especially useful in electrical, electronic, microwave and electro-optical applications.

PURPOSE:To achieve measurement rapidly and highly accurately with a relatively simple device by allowing a slit light to be projected at a top edge of a measuring terminal for memorizing an image-forming position of a reflection light and then by placing a can lid onto the top edge for measuring a bottom thickness based on the image-forming position on the bottom surface of a score part. CONSTITUTION:A slit light 2 is projected toward a skew lower part for a top edge 1a1 of a top part 1a of a measuring terminal 1. Then, image-forming of a reflection light 3 from the top edge 1a1 is matched to a cross point between cursor lines 5a and 5b and an image-forming position 3'a of the top edge 1a1 is memorized previously. A can lid 6 is placed on the measuring terminal 1 horizontally so that a part a part 8 of a surface of an opposite side corresponding to nearly a central part 7a1 in width direction of the bottom surface 7a of a score part 7 of the can lid 6 can contact the top edge 1a1 in this state. Then, a bottom thickness of the score part 7 is obtained by a specified operation based on a distance between the image-forming position 3'a of the memorized top edge 1a1 and a formed image 13'a of the bottom surface 7a, thus enabling the bottom thickness at the score part to be measured rapidly and highly accurately with a relatively simple device.
