Elimination of Coulomb finite-size effects in quantum many-body simulations
Andrew Williamson,Gunaretnam Rajagopal,Richard J. Needs,L. M. Fraser,W. M. C. Foulkes,Yan Wang,Mei-Yin Chou +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a model interaction for quantum many-body simulations of Coulomb systems using periodic boundary conditions is introduced, which gives much smaller finite size effects than the standard Ewald interaction and also much faster to compute.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimized wave functions for quantum Monte Carlo studies of atoms and solids.
Andrew Williamson,Steven D. Kenny,Gunaretnam Rajagopal,A. James,Richard J. Needs,L. M. Fraser,W. M. C. Foulkes,P. Maccullum +7 more
TL;DR: Wave functions for the homogeneous electron gas, a germanium pseudosolid, and a germium pseudoatom are optimized using the method of variance minimization and the results are very promising for future applications of quantum Monte Carlo methods to real materials.
