A device for measuring a volume flow in a ventilation pipe (1) comprises a mounting (8) that can be fixed in the ventilation pipe (1) and a sensor element (13) having a sensor surface (18.1), said element being disposed on the mounting (8) and configured as a thermal anemometer. Upstream of the sensor element (13) is a turbulence-generating element, for example in the form of a break-away edge (17.1), which is configured and disposed at a distance from the sensor surface (18.1) such that highly turbulent flow is generated in the region of the sensor surface (18.1) in a targeted manner. Downstream of the sensor surface (18.1) is a flow element (20), which widens in the cross-section thereof in the flow direction (L), wherein starting from a height level of the sensor surface (18.1) a height is reached that is greater than the height of the break-away edge (17.1) opposite the sensor surface (18.1).

An intake manifold section for installing in an intake system of an internal combustion engine may have a tube body including an inlet opening, an outlet opening and a fresh air path section running from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. An air mass sensor may be fastened to the tube body and protrude into the fresh air path section. A bypass channel may be disposed on the tube body and bypass the fresh air path section connected to a blow-by gas path at an inlet side.

Intake manifold section and intake system

A mass airflow measuring device includes an air passageway and a body positioned in the passageway. The body includes a peripheral section including a first channel, a sample section located radially inward of the peripheral section, and including an inlet port and a support section connecting the sample section to the peripheral section. The support section includes a second channel which communicates at a first end with the inlet port and at a second end with the first channel. A mass airflow sensor is mounted to the body.

Building airflow measuring system and method

A mass airflow measuring device includes an air passageway defined in a duct. A first channel communicates with the air passageway via at least one first aperture to allow air flowing through the air passageway to enter the first channel. A second channel is located downstream from the first channel. A sample channel communicates the first channel with the second channel. A mass airflow sensor is located in the sample channel and is adapted to receive air flowing in the sample channel. The sample channel is defined in a housing which has a chamber adapted to accommodate one of a variety of differently configured mass airflow sensors. Mass airflow sensor for internal combustion engines

A method of modifying an engine 10 after the engine 10 has been initially sold by the manufacturer of the engine 10, wherein the engine 10 has an air intake pipe 12 and an air flow sensor 14, wherein the air intake pipe 12 has an exterior wall surface 16 and an interior wall surface 18, and wherein the air flow sensor 14 has a sensing head 20 disposed at a first location 22 within the air intake pipe 12 spaced apart from the interior wall surface 18 of the air intake pipe 12, includes the step of: repositioning the sensing head 20 from the first location 22 to a second location 24, wherein the second location 24 is closer to the interior wall surface 18 of the air intake pipe 12 than the position of the sensing head 20 at the first location 22.

Method and apparatus for improving engine performance

A housing structure for improving air flow to the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine is claimed. The present invention is a replacement part for a factory-installed mass air flow sensor housing and is designed to allow for larger air flow through the housing through the use of a bypass air passage or calibration tube that reduces air flow as experienced by the mass air flow sensor. The calibration tube reduces air flow across the sensor with a larger bore on its inlet and a restriction in its outlet. The calibration tube is angled to reduce back flow from the engine.
