Journal ArticleDOI
A Signal Detection Framework to Evaluate Models of Tree Mortality Following Fire Damage
TL;DR: Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves show the tradeoffs that are possible by varying the decision criteria, show predictive performance with respect to chance, and show the difference between various models.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microsite variability and safe site description for western larch germination and establishment
TL;DR: The safe site concept appears useful in evaluating germination and initial establishment of western larch, with high predictability at the end of the first growing season for initial seedling establishment.
Journal ArticleDOI
A process for modeling short- and long-term risk in the southern Oregon Cascades
Gary J. Roloff,Stephen P. Mealey,Christopher Clay,Jeff Barry,Curt Yanish,Leon F. Neuenschwander +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a risk assessment process integrating information about the ecological characteristics of the landscape, vegetation dynamics as related to different management scenarios, and fire modeling is presented for effects analyses on water temperature, peak flows, landslides, and northern spotted owls (Strix occidentalis caurina).
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of slash pile burning on the physical and chemical soil properties of Vassar soils.
TL;DR: In this article, the initial effects of slash pile burning on chemical and physical properties in the Vassar soil series were determined. And the results showed that available nitrogen increased with increasing fuel loads as a result of the increased total quantity of mineralization of organic N from the heavier fuels.
