A voice controlled vehicle accessory system is responsive to voice commands and/or manual commands wherein the manual commands are entered via a single pushbutton 16 having multiple functions depending upon the instantaneous state of a system controller 10. A single housing houses the microphone for the voice recognition unit and the single pushbutton adjacent to each other in a common location in the vehicle, thereby reducing manufacturing costs and increasing user convenience since the two separate input functions are intuitively placed in a common location.

Apparatus for a radio microphone enables hands-free operation of the microphone when it is attached to a user's shirt, jacket or other article of clothing, for example. The apparatus preferably comprises a cover which is attached to the microphone and includes an integral actuating lever that is positioned to be actuated by movement of a user's head or chin. Police, fire or other emergency personnel at the scene of an emergency can utilize the cover to keep their hands free for other tasks during operation of the microphone, and this also avoids the possibility that the user will contaminate the microphone by contacting it with their hands.

Apparatus and method for hands-free operation of a radio microphone

A headset assembly is described, of the type which includes a headband with earphones for delivering sound to the wearer, a microphone into which the wearer talks, and a "push-to-talk" switch that is operated when the wearer wishes to talk, whcih facilitates operation of the switch. The switch (24) has an actuator part (30) extending from one of the sides of the headset, such as the left side, to a location above the left shoulder of the wearer. The wearer activates the switch by lifting his left shoulder to press on the actuator part of the switch. The switch is preferably closed by depressing the actuator part, and extends in a downward-outward direction at an angle of about 30° from the vertical, so the natural lifting of the shoulder causes the shoulder to move along the direction of depression of the switch actuator part.

A radio telephone device (1) is provided with a reed switch (13) arranged between a radio section (12) and a rod antenna (15) in a telephone set main body (10), which connects the radio section (12) and the rod antenna (15) with each other when the telephone set main body (10) is separated from a car kit (20). The car kit is provided with a magnet (27) which magnetically energizes the reed switch (13) when the telephone set main body (10) is placed on the car kit (20) so that the reed switch (13) is turned into a mode where the radio section (12) and an external antenna (26) are connected to each other. Hence it is possible to execute switching the antenna line between the rod antenna (15) of the telephone set main body (10) and the external antenna (26) of the car kit (20) without inviting any increase in the consumption of electric current and without making the circuits more complicated.

The invention relates to a device for mobile telephone apparatus comprising at least one loudspeaker and at least one microphone arranged in connection with a headrest, the loudspeaker and the microphone being connected to the mobile telephone. According to the invention, the loudspeaker is integrated in the headrest and the microphone is arranged on an arm, which arm is attached to the headrest.

A Citizens Band transceiver mounted on the instrument panel of a motor vehicle has attached thereto bracket structure which includes a rearwardly extending arm engageable upon the vehicle seat. The rearwardly extending arm has supported therethrough a flexible tubular body which supports at an upper end thereof a microphone holder and a microphone detachably received therein and electrically connected to the transceiver. Elongated switch actuating means slideably disposed in the tubular body is provided with an actuator button received in the microphone holder frame and positioned to operate an externally located switch on the microphone. An opposite end of the elongated switch actuating means is secured to the vehicle floor with an extension part of the switch actuating means properly contained therein. A hinging foot pedal device is operatively connected to the projecting extremity of the switch actuating means. The arrangement of parts enables the driver of the vehicle to maintain both hands on the steering wheel of the vehicle when speaking into the microphone and thus avoids violation of traffic regulations prohibiting the use of one hand to hold the microphone while driving with only one hand.
