A high-strength parallel yarn rope comprises a series of multifilament rope yarns which are bounded together in parallel relation along their lengths by a binder distributed only on the surfaces of the yarns to form a flexible rope core. The core is surrounded by a braided jacket, and a flexible layer of waterimpervious material adhesively and mechanically bonds the core to the jacket. A method is also disclosed for manufacturing the rope.

Parallel yarn rope

A tension leg cable is connected between a floating structure and a seafloor anchor means. The cable is a multi-strand cable having voids between adjacent strands. A fluid tight vulcanized rubber sheath is provided covering an outer surface of the cable. A fluid tight corrosion resistant tubular member surrounds said sheath so as to define an annular space between the tubular member and the sheath. Means is provided for supplying an inert gas under pressure to said voids and said annular space. Means is provided for monitoring the pressure of said inert gas in said voids and said annular space to detect changes in said pressure so as to indicate a leak in either said sheath or said tubular member. Methods of construction of said tension leg cable are also disclosed.

Corrosion resistant tension leg cables

The device comprises a collar consisting of two shells, designed to provide a link with the load-transmitting element. The cable has an assembly of tensioned strands contained, at the level of the collar, in a matrix filling the interstices between the strands. This matrix is totally or partially made from a plastic material susceptible to creep under the effect of the clamping action of the collar. The clamping action is applied by elongate elements transmitting a clamping force to the shells of the collar. These elongate elements are stressed so as to produce a longitudinal elastic deformation that is much greater than the maximum settlement of the matrix due to creep. This prevents any undesirable loosening of the collar.

A flexible tension member for structural applications comprises twenty or more high strength rods (R) bundled helically with a lay length 20 to 150 times overall diameter, the rod (R) upon introduction being substantially free from curvature resulting in slackness in the bundle and introduced without flexural stresses significantly exceeding the yield point of the rod structure. The invention may utilize rods of solid circular or non-circular cross-section, or tubular and formed of metal, e.g., steel, and/or non-metallic material, more particularly fibre reinforced plastics, and results in a smooth uniform appearance, with good integrity and no signs of slackness despite the unusually long lay length employed.
