The objective of this study was investigate Burnout Syndrome in professionals of a hospital in a city of Porto Alegre metropolitan area. This work verify, too, the behavior of association with demographic variables, professionals and satisfaction at work. It used as research instrument the MBI Maslach Burnout Inventory (HSS), the Questionnaire of Satisfaction at Work S20/23 and a questionnaire that was elaborated specially to this survey to the other variables. The sample consisted of 72 persons randomly selected. The results acquired show the negative association between emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and age. It indicate too that Administration's professionals have bigger numbers in Professional Achievement than nursery's professionals and general services. Association important was identify between Burnout and satisfaction factors in work. INTRODUCTION: The burnout syndrome is a psychosocial phenomenon that arises as a response to chronic interpersonal stressors present at work. There are many aspects that make nursing assistants vulnerable to chronic stress situations that may lead to burnout, highlighting the low degree of autonomy in the healthcare staff and spending more in direct contact with patients. OBJECTIVES: To assess the prevalence of the burnout syndrome in nursing assistants in a public hospital, as well as its association with socio-demographic and professional variables. METHODS: A socio-demographic and professional questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-SS) were applied to 534 nursing assistants. RESULTS: The prevalence of burnout syndrome among nursing assistants was 5.9%. High emotional exhaustion was observed in 23.6%, 21.9% showed high depersonalization, and 29.9% low professional achievement. It was found statistically significant associations between emotional exhaustion, job sector and marital status; depersonalization, having children and health problems; low professional achievement and job sector and number of jobs. There was association between job satisfaction and the three dimensions. CONCLUSISON: Professionals working in the health area must pay intense and extended attention to people who are dependent upon others. The intimate contact of the nursing assistants with hard-to-handle patients, as well as being afraid to make mistakes in healthcare are additional chronic stress factors and burnout syndrome cases related in this study.

Burnout syndrome in nursing assistants of a public hospital in the state of São Paulo.

This study is a comparison between hospital nurses who work in 'open and closed" units. In open units, patient and his family have free transit and in closed units, like critical care unit, patient and his family have limitation in transit. The results demonstrated that nurses who worked in open unit had higher stress score than nurses in closed units. For both groups, personal administration had high stress score. The nurses' education is important to improve her performance.

Stress has been observed among various professionals, including intensive care unit (ICU) nurses, due to their close contact with patients in distress and at the risk of death. This situation becomes worse due to the need for direct and intensive care. This study was performed to characterize nurses working at ICU and verify the presence of stress among them. A total of 21 ICU nurses from five hospitals located in the state of Sao Paulo answered a series of questions about the ICU and completed the Nurse Stress Inventory. Study results showed that 57.1% of nurses consider the ICU a stressful place, and 23.8% achieved a high score, indicating the presence of stress. Stress continues to affect these professionals, and institutions do not offer any special care for nurses in the sense of promoting comprehensive health care.

OBJECTIVE To identify the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in medical professionals, nurses and nursing technicians working in an Onco-Hematological Pediatric Hospital in Sao Paulo METHOD An exploratory, descriptive study with cross-sectional design and quantitative approach, with a sample of 188 health professionals Data were collected using two self-report instruments: the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) which is a biosocial data form, and a non-participant observation guide RESULTS High depersonalization for nurses (298%), low job performance for physicians (278%), and of nursing technicians (255%) High scores were identified in at least two domains of Burnout in 192% of nurses, 168% of nursing technicians, and 166% of doctors CONCLUSION Health professionals are highly vulnerable to each of the dimensions of Burnout syndrome - namely emotional exhaustion, alienation, and low job performance/satisfaction- in the hospital work

Prevalence of Burnout syndrome in health professionals of an onco-hematological pediatric hospital

This is a empirical approach about professional fatigue of the hospital nurse. The fatigue concept was based on the Burnout Syndrome and some hospital variables associated. The sample consisted of 341 nurses of whon demographic data is awaible. Results of the application of the psychometric analisys of Burnout Inventory, as well as statistic correlation between the three scales and demographic data are presented. Considerable presence of emotional exhaustion and cognitive weariness as a consequence of the working atmosphere in the hospital critical sectors and the nursing chief responsability were found.
