TL;DR: The article concludes by summarizing the topics of other entries within this section on conservation behavior, as they emphasize some of the different ways that behavior can inform the questions and actions of conservation.
Abstract: Conservation behavior is a relatively new discipline that was forged to increase the application of animal behavior research to real-world conservation problems. Much behavior is influenced by an animal’s state or condition, which is in turn impacted by its environment, causing behavior to be particularly affected by anthropogenic environmental changes that are of conservation concern. Because an animal’s behavior can also influence demographic processes that determine population persistence, behavioral biologists may have insights of conservation relevance. Conservation behavior is advancing gradually. Here, the history of the field, some impediments to its development, and some tools to accelerate its progress are briefly highlighted. The article concludes by summarizing the topics of other entries within this section on conservation behavior, as they emphasize some of the different ways that behavior can inform the questions and actions of conservation.
